Musicians, vocalists earn state berths

STATEBOUND – Several Decatur students earned state berths at the recent Region 2 solo, ensemble and choir contests. The band members advancing are Oliver Gordon, Hannah Rainey, Megan Rathbun, Clayton Roberts, Dakota Petree, Spencer Rodgers, Samuel Reese, Alexis McBride, Theresa West, Stephen Webber, Caleb Yurasek, Aaron Gonzalez, Zane Blythe, Eric McNiel Jr., Marcus Pena, Eric Gregoire, (not pictured) Nicholas Bishop and Sebastian Mares. Decatur students put their wide-ranging musical talents on display earlier this month in the Region 2 solo and ensemble band and choir competitions.

Decatur band members earned 18 state berths for their performances. Another nine choir members will also advance to the state competition.

The percussion ensemble of Aaron Gonzales, Stephen Webber, Theresa West, Caleb Yurasek, Zane Blythe and Eric McNiel Jr. earned a first division rating and a state berth.

Webber, McNiel Jr. and Gonzales also earned first divisions for their snare solos to advance to state.

Yurasek received first division and state berth for his quad solo.

The trumpet quartet of Marcus Pena, Eric Gregoire, Sebastion Mares and Nicholas Bishop will head to state after earning first division. They will be joined at state by the trumpet trio of Spencer Rodgers, Samuel Reece and Alexi McBride.

Rodgers earned first division and a state spot in French horn. Dakota Petree advanced in euphonium.

The choir ensemble of Sarah Culpepper, Madelyn Causey, Sunshine Trotter, Cameron Pitts, Eric McNiel Jr., Gage Yarborough, Andrew Wilson and Aidan Cottrell will be heading to state.

Katy Brown, Causey, Culpepper, Mallory Middleton, Trotter and Wilson earned solo state berths.
