Jeffrey Scheller, 27, of Decatur apparently walked in front of an eastbound 18-wheeler at the entrance of Imperial Fabrication on U.S. 380 east of Decatur around 8:45 a.m., Wise County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Craig Johnson said.

Scheller was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Jan Morrow.

“At this point, it appears intentional,” Johnson said. “We’re conducting a joint investigation with the Department of Public Safety due to the unattended death and accident.”

Johnson said from the information they’ve gathered, Scheller was an employee at Imperial and had been working just prior to the incident.

Scheller’s body was sent to the Dallas County Medical Examiner for an autopsy.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Johnson said it is not clear why Scheller stepped in front of the truck.

“We’re working to come up with our best guess as to why it happened, but we don’t have a handle on that yet,” he said.

Wise County EMS, Decatur Fire Department, Wise County Fire Marshal’s Office, DPS and the sheriff’s office responded to the scene.
