The Wise County Sheriff’s Department is asking the public to help identify a woman seen and heard on a home security system apparently asking for help.

Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said his office was contacted Tuesday night by a homeowner in the Indian Trails neighborhood about a half-mile from U.S. 380 between Decatur and Bridgeport. An unknown woman had left a message at a speaker box at the front gate of the residential property.

“I’m really scared. Will you please open your gate? Please?” the woman is heard saying on the message.

The message was left around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Home video surveillance appears to show an approximately 5-foot-3-inch white female weighing approximately 80 pounds dressed in three-quarter length black leggings, tennis shoes, an athletic-type top, wearing a backpack and carrying a large satchel-type purse or bag.

Initially, investigators believed the woman to be 12 to 14 years old but adjusted the approximate age after talking to a witness.

“We found a mail lady who saw the same person, and she was saying the woman was closer to 25,” Akin said.

Investigators have talked with residents of the neighborhood, but no one else saw the woman. They were able to find surveillance videos showing her walking through the neighborhood.

One of the videos shows the woman looking around as if someone might be following her. She remained in the neighborhood until something apparently caught her attention just before she ran to a heavily wooded area.

She has not been seen since.
