Classes resumed Thursday at Bridgeport High School, the day after students were evacuated as firefighters and gas crews investigated a natural gas odor.

By Wednesday evening a gas leak had been isolated by Atmos crews, according to Bridgeport ISD Superintendent Brandon Peavey. It was repaired by Thursday evening with gas service restored to the building Peavey said.

The leak was outside a perimeter wall. He said a portion of the sidewalk had to be removed to make the repairs.

Wednesday students were evacuated to Bridgeport Middle School and released at 1 p.m.

“As always, the safety of our students and staff is important to BISD,” Peavey said.

He thanked students, staff and parents for their cooperation Wednesday.
