Fire tore through Freedom Fried Hamburgers in Boyd Monday morning, destroying the inside of the restaurant.

Boyd, Decatur, Rhome, Newark and Paradise firefighters responded to the call at 109 W. Rock Island Ave. in downtown Boyd shortly after 4 a.m., according to Wise County Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty.

Boyd Fire Chief Chris Caster said fire and smoke were pouring out of the back of the building when his crew arrived.

“We’re trying to contain exposure to other businesses,” Caster said. “The inside of [Freedom Fried Hamburgers] is probably a total loss.”

Caster said the neighboring business, The Pecan House, likely just sustained smoke damage.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office as well as the Boyd Police Department responded.

Rock Island Ave., which is Texas 114, was shut down in both directions for more than two hours.
