A woman was injured in a one-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning south of Boyd.

The wreck happened around 12:15 a.m. on Farm Road 730 just north of County Road 4764.

According to Sgt. Ricky Hunter, spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, Tracey McCurdy, 59, of Irving was southbound on FM 730 in a 2001 Ford pickup when for an as-yet-undetermined reason the truck left the roadway and traveled up onto a guardrail.

“The Ford then went over the guardrail and off a bridge into a creek,” Hunter said. “The Ford caught fire as a result of the crash.”

McCurdy was able to get out of the vehicle before first responders arrived, but not before sustaining burn injuries from the fire. She was flown from the scene to a Fort Worth area hospital.

Wise County EMS and Boyd Fire Department along with local law enforcement agencies responded and found the truck fully engulfed in flames underneath the bridge. Mutual aid was requested from the Decatur Fire Department to help extinguish the fire.

Smoke from the blaze resulted in FM 730 being shut down for a short time.

The Texas Department of Transportation also responded to the scene due to the guardrail damage.

The roadway was cleared just before 3 a.m.
