Chico residents can expect to see an increase in their water and sewer bills next month.

At the Jan. 8 regular meeting, the council approved an ordinance that made the rate increase official.

At last month’s meeting, the council approved raising water and sewer rates. The new water rate for the first 2,000 gallons will be $27.26, a $3 increase from the current rate of $24.26. For more than 2,000 gallons, the cost will be $5.20 per 1,000 gallons.

The new sewer rate for the first 2,000 gallons will be $22.33, a $5 increase from the current rate of $17.33.

Mayor Colleen Self said the new rates will apply to the meter readings this month and will be reflected in February’s bill.

In other business, the council hired Hilltop Securities as the city’s financial advisor for its recently-completed sewer plant project and an upcoming project that will require moving water lines along Sherman Street due to Texas Department of Transportation project to widen Farm Road 1810 from Texas 101 to Farm Road 2127.

Self said Hilltop will present the city with options at the Feb. 19 council meeting.
