Longtime EMS Administrator Charles Dillard announced his retirement at Monday’s county commissioners meeting.

“This has been a hard decision because I have truly enjoyed my 27-plus years working for the citizens of Wise County,” Dillard said in his resignation letter addressed to County Judge J.D. Clark. “I’m excited about my impending retirement but wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all of the opportunities that I have experienced working for Wise County.

“I have genuinely enjoyed my employment as EMS director and will miss you and my coworkers when my retirement day comes.”

Dillard, who was named EMS administrator in 2000, will work through April 30, although he said he will be available to help the department make a smooth transition.

“He’s done a really good job of getting the preliminary job description lined out for us,” Clark said. “He said one of those didn’t exist when he came in, so I appreciate him doing that.”

The job will be posted, and a hiring committee, which includes Clark, Precinct 2 Commissioner Kevin Burns, Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty and Emergency Management Coordinator Cody Powell, will review resumes and interview candidates, making a recommendation to commissioners.
