Decatur City Council approves variance requests

A number of variance requests were approved by the Decatur City Council Monday.

Two of the variances were for property at 101 West Park Street. The council approved sidewalk variances along both Park Street and Trinity Street.

The three other variances were related to property at 170 County Road 3198 in the city’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. The council approved variances to the drainage requirements of the county’s development rules and regulations, the curb and gutter requirements in the city’s design standards and the sidewalk requirements in the city’s design standards.

In other planning and zoning business, the council approved the preliminary and final plat of the property at 170 County Road 3198.

In other business, the council:

  • heard the police department’s annual report on racial profiling for 2018.
  • approved a joint election agreement with Decatur ISD for the May 4 election.
  • changed the city’s emergency management coordinator from the position of police chief to fire chief.
  • approved the closure of a number of streets in the downtown area on April 20 for the sixth annual Glitzy Girlz Trailer Park Event.
  • accepted the resignation of Dennis McCreary from the zoning board of adjustment, the appointment of Kristy Campbell as a regular member with a term to expire Oct. 1, 2020, and the appointment of Julie Perkins and Mark Ary as alternate members with terms to expire Oct. 1, 2020.
