Bark Bike

#1: PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM

Bark, Bike & Brews – take two.

Bridgeport’s newest festival was originally scheduled for March 23, but was rescheduled to April 6 due to potential bad weather.

The day kicks off with a bike ride at 7 a.m. with 9-, 27- and 65-mile rides, followed by festivities 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Halsell Street. There will be dog contests, a kids bike parade at noon and numerous vendors, plus free beer and coffee samples.

Vote

#2: REGISTER TO VOTE

To cast a ballot in the May city council and school board elections, you must be registered to vote. The last day to do so is Thursday.

To find out if you’re registered, go to the Texas Secretary of State website, wcmess.com/sos.

To register, call or visit the friendly folks at the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St., in Decatur, 940-626-4453.

Clay Shooting

#3: SHOOT THE BS

The popular Barnett Shale Sporting Clay Shoot is 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Northwest OHV Park, just outside Bridgeport.

The annual event, put on by the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce, draws 150 to 200 competitors – mostly from the oil and gas and aggregate industries.

The competition is fierce and the lunch is catered. Don’t miss out.

To enter, call the Chamber today, 940-683-2076 or email info@bridgeportchamber.org.

Casa

#4: KEEPING KIDS SAFE

CASA of Wise and Jack Counties, the Wise County Coalition for Healthy Children, the Child Welfare Board and Child Protective Services are kicking off Child Abuse Prevention Month at noon Monday on the steps of the Wise County Courthouse in Decatur.

County Judge J.D. Clark will read a proclamation, and those in attendance are asked to wear blue, the official color of the campaign. CASA hopes to pack the Square with citizens ready to stand up and keep children safe.

April Fools

#5: JOKE’S ON YOU

Fair warning: April Fool’s Day is Monday.

People generally do one of two things on this day: plan the greatest gag of all time or brace themselves for the barrage of jokes.

News agencies often have a few tricks up their sleeves on this day, too, so beware. A few April Fool’s headlines from 2018 include: “Burger King announces a chocolate Whopper,” “Archaeologists discover porg bones” (Yes, from Star Wars), “Coca-Cola announces avocado flavored soda,” and “Stephen King considers a gubernatorial run.”

Funny stuff, but don’t fall for it.
