Daddy Daughter

#1: MAY I HAVE THIS DANCE?

Dads: start practicing your dance moves. Next weekend is the popular Daddy Daughter Dance hosted by the Decatur Junior Woman’s Club. The 13th annual event is Saturday (Feb. 2) at the Decatur Conference Center.

All ages are welcome to attend. There are two sessions: 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. for general admission. VIP tickets are available, which gives you early entrance to the venue, reserved seating and an activity voucher.

There will be a live DJ, heavy hors d’oeuvres and photos. To purchase tickets, go to djwcdaddydaughterdance on Facebook or call Hillary Swift, 940-595-4955.

Big Game

#2: BIG GAME BINGE

The unofficial holiday that brings an end to the football season is Feb. 3.

Super Bowl LIII, which will be without the Dallas Cowboys for the 23rd straight year, will pit the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams against each other. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. from Atlanta.

As with most years, the game will be secondary to gorging on nachos, pizza and other treats, while watching the commercials.

Happy football. And to Cowboys fans, there’s always next year.

Taxes

#3: FRIENDLY REMINDER

Taxes are due.

Wise County Tax Assessor/Collector Monte Shaw reminds citizens that Thursday is the last day to pay county taxes without penalty or interest.

Youth Fair

#4: FAIR ENTRIES DUE

Deadline to enter the Wise County Youth Fair is Saturday (Feb. 2). All entries must be done online at wise.fairwire.com. If you need assistance, there will be an entry clinic 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 2 at the Decatur Ag Science Building.

For information about all the fun to be had during this year’s fair, go to wcyouthfair.org.

Groundhog

#5: DO US A SOLID, GROUNDHOG

Everyone be on the lookout for a groundhog or maybe a gopher will do. After all, it is Texas, and the holiday that entrusts our seasonal happiness to a rodent is around the corner.

Feb. 2 is Groundhog Day. If the critter sees his shadow, we will suffer through six more weeks of winter, but if he doesn’t see his shadow, legend has it that spring is around the corner.

One thing you can’t miss on that day is watching the Bill Murray classic.
