Youth Fair

The 67th annual Wise County Youth Fair kicks off Monday.

The contests and shows run through Saturday morning. Shows are held at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur with the exception of the horse show at the NRS arena and a public speaking contest at Weatherford College Wise County.

The fair features FFA, 4-H and FCCLA members from across the county, all excited to exhibit their projects and share their stories with folks new to the county fair experience. Other highlights include the queen’s contest Monday night, the Heart of a Champion show Friday afternoon and the auction Saturday afternoon.

A Big Sandy soccer showdown is next week.

The Bridgeport Bulls and Decatur Eagles will play Friday at Bull Memorial Stadium. The varsity boys start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity girls.

Where does your loyalty lie? Go cheer for your favorite team.

Stop Light

Get ready, folks. We have a new stoplight in town.

The red light at Trenchard and Hale streets in Decatur will be activated Monday. You may have noticed it’s been blinking yellow to capture the attention of drivers, but next week it will be a working light.

It was installed to address traffic coming in and out of the new QuickTrip. That being said, the store is not yet open. Thom Lambert, executive director of the Decatur Economic Development Corp., said it’s scheduled to open the first week of April.

The annual fundraising gala for the Wise Choices Pregnancy Resource Center is Thursday at the Decatur Conference Center.

The theme this year is honoring superheroes, and everyone is invited to attend. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. It will be followed by a program where representatives share heartfelt stories and goals of the organization.

Youth Fair week wouldn’t be complete without the youth rodeo.

The Wise County Open Youth Rodeo is Friday and Saturday night at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur.

To enter, call 903-379-3441 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. There will be timed and rough stock events.

If you prefer to watch the rodeo from the stands instead of inside the chute, come out either night when the gates open at 6. Tickets are 5 bucks for age 20 and older. The rodeo starts at 7 p.m.
