Valentine’s Day left four people in Heartbreak Hotel, aka the Wise County Jail, following a drug investigation at a Decatur motel last Thursday.

On Feb. 14, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office received information that methamphetamine was being sold and counterfeit money was being passed at Motel 6 in Decatur.

Acting on the tip, the WCSO Special Enforcement team set up observation of the hotel parking lot. The four people described by the tipster were seen coming and going from the motel, loading items into a vehicle.

Once the vehicle drove away from the motel, the driver was stopped for traffic violations.

“A subsequent search found bags and scales commonly used to distribute methamphetamine. The officers also found several grams of methamphetamine and apparent counterfeit currency,” Sheriff Lane Akin said in a written statement.

David Elliot Burney, 51, of Richland Hills was arrested and charged with five counts of forgery and possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1, 1 to 4 grams. Total bond was set at $120,000, and he remained in the Wise County Jail Monday.

Yvonne Crystal Smart, 32, of Chico was arrested on a warrant for possession of marijuana, under 2 ounces. Jail records indicate she posted bail and was released Friday.

Landon Michele Wilkerson, 24, of Jacksboro was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and driving while license invalid. She posted bail and was released Monday.

Charles Allen Tubb, 30, of Runaway Bay was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He posted bond and was released Saturday, according to jail records.
