Korwin “Joe” Goodwin

Korwin “Joe” Goodwin, 83, of Decatur, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2019, in Decatur.

Funeral service is 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at First United Methodist Church in Decatur. A graveside service at Auburn Cemetery in Cherokee, Okla., will follow at 10:30 a.m. Friday Jan. 18.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur.

Joe was born Dec. 31, 1935, in Alfalfa County, Okla., to Glenn and Joe Goodwin. He earned degrees in chemistry and biology with a minor in Physics from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in 1957. Joe worked for five major oil and gas companies, retiring from Exxon/Mobil in 2000. He traveled worldwide, visiting 37 countries, consulting and instructing in oil well cementing. He wrote multiple papers, many of which were published. Joe was also credited with two patents. His professional membership included The Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Joe was preceded in death by his son, Joe David Goodwin; brother Kirk Goodwin; and nephew Klay Goodwin.

Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Lyon Goodwin of Decatur; daughter Dana Tanner and husband, Dale, of Plano; daughter-in-law Kate Marshall of Washington, W.V.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Choir in Decatur.
