Jessie Jake Monroe Jr.

Jessie Jake Monroe Jr., 88, of Forestburg, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, in Forestburg.

Graveside service is 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at New Harp Cemetery in Forestburg with Danny Russell and Doyle Wade officiating.

Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

Jessie was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Alvord to Jessie Jake Sr. and Bessie Pearl (Lowrey) Monroe. He graduated from Forestburg School in 1948. Jessie also attended Decatur Baptist College. He married Wanda Johnson Jan. 23, 1954. Jessie served in the U.S. Army, a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Bowie VFW. Jessie retired from General Motors after 30 years and also was a rancher. He attended the Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Bula Mae Berry, Geneva White, Louise Howard and Elsie Sampler.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years; daughters Tana May and husband, Eddie, of Forestburg, Cindy Parker of Forestburg, Janet Rhodes and husband, William, of Forestburg and Jacqueline Duffley and husband, Paul, of Alvord; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
