Herman Franklin Dowdy

Herman Franklin Dowdy, 77, of Bridgeport, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, in Bridgeport.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12 in East Bridgeport Cemetery with Rev. Larry Potts officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are Chad Carter, Meade Carter, Michael Cox and Trein Cox.

Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

Herman was born Jan. 20, 1941, in Philadelphia, Penn., to Meade and Francis (Rowe) Dowdy. He married Rachel Allen July 3, 1959, in Colfax, N.C.

He was a retired member of the North Carolina Jaycees. He started the North Carolina Junior Jaycee Handicap program.

He moved to Bridgeport in 1978 to open a Sonic. He owned and operated Trophies Plus in Bridgeport with his son Keith. He started Total Clean Janitorial and Floor Cleaning Service in 1986 and became known as Mr. Clean. He retired in 2010.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents; and stepmother Treva Dowdy.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years; daughter Renea Kincaid and husband, John, of Joshua; son Keith Dowdy and wife, Carol, of Decatur; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters Ann North of North Carolina, Debbie Hosch of Mississippi and Edith Davis of Texas; brothers David Dowdy and Rev. Tony Dowdy, both of North Carolina.
