Dr. Linda Ann Carson Schertz

Dr. Linda Ann Carson Schertz, 68, of Denton and Greenwood, died Tuesday Jan. 22, 2019.

Services were Jan. 25 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Denton with the Revs. Richard B. Culp and Lisa Patterson officiating. Interment followed at Plainview Cemetery in Krum.

Pallbearers were Brady Boone, Dusty Schertz, Cole Carson, Rhys Carson, Dillon Brewer and Matt Heilig.

She was born Nov. 22, 1950, in Decatur to Charles L. and Moleana Mason Carson. Linda married Terry H. Schertz July 22, 1997.

Linda graduated from Decatur High School in 1969 and held degrees from NCTC, UNT, TWU and UT-Austin. She was a professor at Angelo State University, Texas Woman’s University, Texas Wesleyan University and University of North Texas. She was a devoted educator, administrator, early childhood expert and mentor to thousands of university undergraduate and doctoral students through the years.

She retired in 2005 from UNT as Professor Emeritus. Her accomplishments included recognition as Houston ISD Outstanding Young Educator three times and Teacher of the Year. She was a member and counselor for Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society for Educators. She served in appointed and elected positions of state and national organization, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She was a textbook and children’s book author. Dr. Schertz traveled extensively in the U.S. and worldwide conducting educational presentations and workshops. She served on or directed early childhood education delegations traveling in China, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Russia, Poland and South Africa. She lectured and chaired programs at St. Anthony’s College at the University of Oxford in England.

Linda was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2017.

She is preceded in death by her father; and husband Randy Sluder.

Linda is survived by her husband; daughter Nicole Schertz Boone and husband, Brady, of Round Rock; son Eric H. Schertz and wife, Morgan, of Gulf Shores, Ala.; her mother; brother Charles Thomas Carson and wife, Shelley, of Gainesville; and sister Cecile Carson of Denton.
