SLIDELL ACCIDENT – Firefighters from Greenwood/Slidell responded to an accident at the intersection of Farm Roads 51 and 455 around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities said the driver of a Ford Ranger pulled out in front of a one-ton Ford pickup. The Ranger was totaled. Neither driver was injured.

DECATUR SOCCER ADVANCES – The Decatur Eagles beat Pampa 1-0 Tuesday in Lubbock. They are the 4A Region I area champions for the second straight year. Decatur will advance to the 4A regional quarterfinal and play San Elizario.

CHURCH DEMOLISHED – Demolition of the former Cornerstone Baptist Church in Decatur began Tuesday to make way for QuikTrip. Decatur EDC Director Thom Lambert said construction will begin in June at the site on the corner of Hale Street and U.S. 81/287. The store and gas station is projected to open in February 2019. Cornerstone Baptist Church built a new building at 2496 Deer Park Road and began holding services there in late 2017.

CEMETERY ASSOCIATION MEETING – Jonestown Cemetery Association’s annual meeting is 11 a.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 615 CR 1280 in Alvord.

RED CROSS MEETING – American Red Cross of Wise County will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Street Coffee Bar in downtown Decatur. Anyone interested in volunteering is invited.

BRIDGEPORT PRE-K REGISTRATION – Pre-K registration for Bridgeport Elementary students that are 4 or will be 4 on or before Sept. 1, 2018, is Thursday, April 5, and Monday, April 9, from 3:45-5 p.m. in the BES cafeteria. Bring your child’s birth certificate, shot record, social security card, proof of residence (utility bill, etc.) and a photo I.D. of the adult enrolling the child. Call the office at 940-683-5955.

GARDEN CLUB MEETING – Bridgeport Garden Club, which serves all of Wise County, will hold its monthly meeting 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Bridgeport Community Center. The programs are “The Power of Music in the Garden” by Casey Jones and “The Power of Art in the Garden” by Ann Ayres. Lunch will be served, and all are welcome. Call Deb Lewis at 443-415-4240.

DONKEY BASKETBALL – The Chico High School Junior Class is hosting Donkey Basketball today at the Chico Middle School Gym. Brisket dinner begins at 5:30 p.m., and the basketball games begin at 6:30. Tickets can be purchased at the Chico High School office in advance for $10 or $12 at the door.

FUNERALS – Service for Esperanza Rodriguez, 79, of Decatur is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight with rosary said at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

FUNERAL for Johnny Mack Martin, 67, of Bridgeport is 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Thomas Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Robert Lee “Bob” Ware, 80, of Paradise is 2 p.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Wizard Wells Cemetery. Family visitation is 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Sid Hodges, 79, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church Bridgeport with burial at Willow Point Cemetery in Balsora. Jones-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Richard J. “Rick” Baily Jr., 57, of Paradise is 2 p.m. Saturday at Biggers Funeral Chapel in Lake Worth. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial at Cottondale Cemetery.
