COUNTY BUDGET, TAX RATE ADOPTED – Wise County commissioners Monday adopted a budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2019. The budget totals $60 million and will be funded in part by a property tax rate of 36 cents per $100 property valuation. Highlights of the new budget include a 5 percent raise for licensed peace officers at the sheriff’s office, a 4 percent pay increase for other county employees, a 10 percent cut to dependent insurance coverage, reinstating a field position for 911 addressing and adding a part-time position for the tax collector’s office. VOLLEYBALL RESULTS – In last night’s volleyball action, Denton beat Northwest 3-2, Midlothian Heritage beat Decatur 3-0, Godley beat Bridgeport 3-0, Boyd beat Brock 3-0, Valley View beat Alvord 3-1 and Chico beat Perrin-Whitt 3-0.

BENEFIT SHOOT – A clay shoot and silent auction for Feeding Wise Kids is Friday at Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds, 7282 FM 51, just outside Decatur. Check-in is 8-8:30 a.m., and the shoot is 9-11. BINGO – The Knights of Columbus Council 9644 is sponsoring a Bingo Night 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Lions Club Hall, 1107 8th Street.

DECATUR FARMERS MARKET – The Decatur Farmers Market will reopen 8 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Fairgrounds with a selection of fall produce along with local honey, baked goods, jams, pickles, farm raised beef, free range eggs and artisan goods. The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection will offer low-cost vaccinations from 10 a.m.-noon.

CONSTITUTION READERS NEEDED – Daughters of the American Revolution John B. Denton Chapter are looking for readers for their upcoming 8th Annual Live Reading of the U.S. Constitution on Sept 17. The event will be at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. If you would like to read a part call Amy at 940-577-3192.

WOMEN’S BUSINESS NETWORK – The Area Business Women’s Network is having its monthly meeting at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Decatur Conference Center. Cost is $11 at the door or pre-pay at www.abwn.org.

LEARN TO CROCHET – Chico Public Library begins its new “Stitch It!” program noon-1:30 p.m. today. This program is open to home schoolers and adults who want to learn the basics of crochet. Experienced crocheters, knitters, etc. are invited to bring their current project to work on and share tips and tricks of the craft. Light refreshments will be provided. MAIN STREET FESTIVAL – Vendors are needed for the 12th Annual Paradise Main Street Festival sponsored by the Paradise Historical Society 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 29. Vendor forms may be entered online with PayPal or downloaded and mailed at www.paradisehistoricalsociety.org/vendor-registration/. All proceeds benefit the Paradise Museum and Paradise Veteran’s Park.
