COACH GAGE RETIRING – Paradise athletic director and head football coach Ronnie Gage will retire at the end of the current school year amid health concerns. The two-time state champion and Texas High School Football Hall of Fame member had quadruple bypass surgery two weeks ago after suffering a minor heart attack. Gage, a Decatur native, finished his 42nd year coaching last season. He spent 27 seasons as a head coach. The 65-year-old won two state titles at Lewisville in 1993 and 1996. BUTTERFIELD STAGE DAYS – Bridgeport’s 36th annual Butterfield Stage Days Festival is this weekend at Harwood Park. The carnival in the park opens Thursday and will run through Saturday night, and the Stage Days parade is Friday at 5:30 p.m. through downtown Bridgeport. The festival begins 10 a.m. Saturday with the pet parade and contest at Harwood Park and the Little Miss and Mr. Butterfield Pageant at the Arcadia Theater, followed by judging for the Butterfield Stage Days BBQ Cook-Off. Food, home and craft vendors will set up tents, and there will be bounce houses, bingo, a deejay, a photo area and a kid zone. The Butterfield Stage Days PRCA Ram Rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 917 Farm Road 2123. Tickets are $12, and kids under 12 get in free. BENEFIT RIDE – A benefit ride for a local young girl named Iriey is Saturday at Full Armor Fellowship/Biker Church. Registration is at 9 a.m., and the ride starts at 10 a.m. Donations will be accepted as entry fee. The event will also include a bounce house, barbecue, bands, auction and 50/50 raffle. Funds raised will help the family with medical expenses for Iriey, who was diagnosed with Dravet Syndrome which causes seizures and other medical issues. RHOME VETERANS EVENTS – Rhome Veterans will hold movie night, featuring “The Shape of Water,” 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Rhome Public Library. At 9 a.m. Saturday, the Rhome Veterans Auxiliary will meet and the veterans group will meet at 10 a.m. at the library.

EDUCATOR RETIREMENT CELEBRATION – Bridgeport Intermediate School will host a retirement celebration for principal Rita Lemoine 4 p.m. today at the Bridgeport Community Center. Lemoine has been in public education for 43 years as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, vice principal and principal.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Dorothy Mae Deaton, 94, of Aurora will be held at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Maria Gaytan, 66, of Fort Worth is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins-Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the Saginaw Community Center.

GRAVESIDE for Clinton Dennis, 89, formerly of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Saturday at West Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL service for Michael Reason, 58, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Larry Wilson, 70, of Nacogdoches will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Nacogdoches at Perritte United Methodist Church. He was the step-father of Messenger Business Manager Kristi Bennett. Laird Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
