INTERIM CITY MANAGER SELECTED – Chester Nolen was selected by the Bridgeport City Council Monday to serve as interim city manager beginning Wednesday, May 30. Nolen, who has previously served as interim city manager, will serve while the city seeks it’s next city manager following the resignation of Jesica McEachern, who accepted a position as Lubbock’s assistant city manager.

EARLY VOTING – Early voting in the May 22 primary runoff election continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at four voting locations: the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St.; Alvord City Hall at 215 W. Elm St. and the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave. Yesterday, 305 votes were cast.

LIBRARY PLAY DATE – Chico Public Library is hosting its Family Place Play Dates 11 a.m.-noon on Wednesdays in May. Family Place Play Dates encourage child-led exploration and discovery through play and social interaction. Each week, a local family service professional will be on hand to answer questions or concerns on topics such as early literacy, food and nutrition, music and play, child development, speech, hearing and language. STROKE SUPPORT GROUP – The Stroke Overcomers Support Group will have their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Wise Health System west campus, Decatur (rehabilitation cafeteria). This group is designed to assist stroke survivors and their families with hope and information. This month’s topic is heat stroke and the steps to take to avoid heat stroke. BINGO NIGHT – The Knights of Columbus Council 9644 will sponsor Bingo Night 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Lions Club Hall, 1107 8th St. in Bridgeport.

CEMETERY MEETING – Pleasant Hill Cemetery’s annual meeting is Saturday at the cemetery. There will be a picnic basket lunch at noon followed by a short program and annual business meeting.

THIRD SATURDAY MARKET – The Decatur Community Market will return to the Wise County Fairgrounds at 9 a.m. Saturday. As a tribute to fallen veterans a butterfly tree will be made.
