BOYD TO EXPLORE WATER SOURCE – The Boyd city council yesterday gave City Administrator Greg Arrington and Director of Public Services Dwayne Taylor authority to explore a cooperative with Newark, Rhome and Aurora to get water from the city of Fort Worth. Councils in the other three towns have already voiced support for exploring the plan of building a water line on Farm Road 718 or U.S. 81/287 from Fort Worth. The costs are still being studied. Mayor Rodney Holmes said this would provide a needed redundant source. The city currently purchases water from Walnut Creek SUD to supplement its ground water supply.

BOYD APPROVES MDD BUDGET – The Boyd city council approved the proposed budget of the newly formed Boyd Municipal District Tuesday night. The district’s $133,000 proposal includes $19,000 for park improvements, $21,000 for HVAC units at the Boyd Community Center and $20,000 for sound equipment and projector to have movies in the park. The MDD has also allotted $30,000 for a business incentive program, which will provide grants for businesses up to $10,000 for building improvements.

VOLLEYBALL SCORES – In the battle of 2017 3A state tournament teams, No. 7 Callisburg edged No. 3 Boyd in five sets 15-25, 25-22, 25-23, 19-25, 15-10. Alvord beat Wise County rival Chico in five games, 20-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-11, 15-6. Decatur took down Peaster 20-25, 25-13, 25-14, 25-17 with Trinity Vinzant and Makenna Gantt burying 11 kills each. Northwest beat Keller Central 25-17, 25-23, 26-24. The Bridgeport Sissies fell to Saginaw in five sets. Bridgeport’s Anna Strother led the team with five blocks and 10 kills. Tiffany Wootton had 12 kills in the effort.

OFFICE HOURS CHANGE – Due to in-service meetings, Weatherford College Wise County offices will be open 2-4 p.m. Friday.

GIRL SCOUT EVENT – A Girl Scout Recruitment “Water Fun” event is 2-6 p.m. Saturday at Harwood City Park Bridgeport. It will feature a water slide, obstacle course and games.

COUNTY PUBLIC HEARINGS – Wise County is having a public hearing for its proposed tax rate and budget for fiscal year 2019 at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Weatherford College Wise County. County commissioners have proposed a tax rate of 36 cents per $100 property valuation, 1.89 cents less than last year. It will help fund a $32.9 million budget. They will hold a second public hearing at 7 p.m. for the proposed branch campus maintenance tax for Weatherford College. Commissioners have proposed a 4.4-cent tax for FY 19, a slight decrease from the current 4.6148.

INDIGENT HEALTH CARE – Applications for the Wise County Indigent Health Care Program are available at 1101 West Rose Ave. in Decatur or by calling 940-627-4203. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements: residents, household, income and resources. They must also meet the standards set by the State Department of Health Care Services and complete required work registration with Texas Workforce Commission unless exempt.

REALTORS LUNCHEON – The Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors will hold a membership luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the Decatur Conference Center. Cost is $20 per person.
