BOYD OKS PACT WITH DEVELOPER – The Boyd city council gave Mayor Rodney Holmes authorization to sign the pre-development agreement with Bob Shelton for the 595- to 650-home development on Cemetery Road Monday night. The pact included language setting the terms for the planned improvement district (PID), which will place a 75-cent levy on properties in the development to pay for infrastructure. The agreement also called for a tax increment reinvestment zone (TIRZ) where the city and Shelton will split tax revenues up to $210,000 of evaluation in the development 50-50 to pay down the PID. Shelton said he plans to close on the 153-acre property next week and file for annexation, the creation of the PID and TIRZ soon. Shelton’s engineer Thomas Fletcher of Kimley-Horn said they will be working on a survey and then the preliminary plat over the next four months with plans to break ground on the infrastructure improvements in the summer of 2019. They hope to start building homes in the first phase of 170 lots in the last quarter of 2020.

EXTENDED HOURS VOTING – You can vote early with extended hours of 7 a.m.-7 p.m. today at the four early voting locations in Wise County: the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm; the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St. Yesterday, another 915 early votes were cast.

BOYD TRUNK OR TREAT – Boyd Community Trunk or Treat is 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Boyd High School. It will feature a hay ride, cake walk, games, candy and contests with prizes including best costume and best decorated trunk.

RHOME TRUNK OR TREAT – The 4th Annual Trunk or Treat sponsored by the Rhome Volunteer Fire Department is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Rhome Family Park. If you plan on participating, vehicles must be parked by 5:45 p.m.

SUIT UP AND SAY BOO – Suit Up and Say Boo, the annual trick or treat event in downtown Bridgeport, is 5-6 p.m. Wednesday. Mayor Randy Singleton will lead the trick or treaters down the sidewalks as they trick or treat with the Halsell Street merchants. Line up for trick or treating begins at 5 p.m. at the Arcadia Theater in downtown Bridgeport.

FALL FESTIVAL – Victory’s Annual Fall Festival is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. The event will feature food trucks, games, hot air balloon rides, zip-line, bounce houses, adult costume contest, a silent auction benefiting VCA and lots of candy.

INFORMATION SESSION – An information session on the proposed Wise County Emergency Service District No. 2 will be held for voters in the Boonsville-Balsora fire district 6-9 p.m. today at the Boonsville Community Center. The come and go session will provide voters more information on the issue of fire protection funding proposal in the current election.

GHOST TALK – Paranormal Investigators Suzette Munson and Jennifer DeMoss will talk about their spooky encounters and what it’s like to investigate the strange and unusual 6-7 tonight at the Decatur Public Library. No registration required. Call the library at 940-393-0290 for more information.

FUNERALS – Service for Ashley Greenfield Cichoracki, 34, of Alvord is 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday.

MEMORIAL service for Bonnie Cocanougher, 86, formerly of Decatur is 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Decatur with a reception to follow. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL for Patsy Harrison, 90, of Alvord is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

PRIVATE family service for Bill Gantt, 82, of Chico will be held at a later date in Leander. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Danny Cooper, 71, of Boyd is 2 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Derrel Eugene Lyon, 82, of Chico is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home Bridgeport.
