DOUBLE-DIGIT RAINFALL FOR SEPTEMBER – Wise County received 10.15 inches of rain for September, according to weather watcher Doyle Green in Decatur. That marks the third wettest September in the last 44 years. Normal rainfall for the month is 3.38 inches. The latest drought monitor update shows Wise County has moved from the “severe drought” designation to the lowest “abnormally dry” designation over the past few weeks. Temperatures in the month ranged from a high of 95 on Sept. 1 to a low of 53 on Sept. 27.

BOYD MOSQUITO SPRAYING – The City of Boyd has contracted for mosquito spraying tonight. All areas of the city will be sprayed. Spraying will begin at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.

RHOME PD NIGHT OUT – Rhome Police Department will hold its National Night Out event 6-8 tonight at the Family Park Pavilion, 400 S. Virginia Lane. The event will include free food and T-shirts. It’s a chance to meet your local police officers and learn about crime prevention.

JUNIOR/SENIOR PARENT NIGHT – Bridgeport High School counselors will hold a Junior/Senior parent night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the high school library. They will be discussing college applications, scholarships, testing, financial aid and all other post secondary questions. There will also be a financial aid representative from Weatherford College present to answer questions. Enter through the doors by the front office.

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS – The community is invited to bring their pets to a traditional Blessing of the Animals 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 905 S. Church St. in Decatur. The church is holding the event in conjunction with the First United Methodist Church of Decatur. Be sure your dogs are leashed and cats contained in carriers. In addition to dogs and cats, blessings have been given to birds, reptiles, hamsters, pot-bellied pigs, etc. as well over the years. The church is also collecting cat litter, bleach and puppy food to be donated to the Wise County Animal Shelter.

COMMUNITY YARD SALE – The Boonsville Community Center’s community yard sale, craft and bake sale and barbecue is 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Call Margaret, 940-748-2532 or email boonsvillecommunitycenter@gmail.com.

DECATUR NIGHT OUT – Decatur will host National Night Out 6-8 p.m. today on the Decatur Square. The event will include free hot dogs, chips, drinks, popcorn, ice cream, jump house, child fingerprint ID, distracted driving simulator and the Decatur Fire Department Clown Show.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Wise Alzheimer’s Group meets 7 tonight in the boardroom at the Wise Health System west campus in Decatur. Call Richard, 940-255-0244.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Wise County Parkinson’s Support Group meets 6 p.m. today at 609 Medical Center Drive, the old Fit-N-Wise. This month will feature a guest speaker.

COUNCIL TO CONSIDER PACT WITH DEVELOPER – The Boyd city council will consider the pre-development agreement with Bob Shelton for the Spring Hill South development tonight at its meeting at 6:30. The proposed development on Cemetery Road will have approximately 600 homes. The council will also look to appoint members to the municipal development district board.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for J.E. Carson, 89, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Decatur with reception to follow. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Emma Grace Sandlin, 3 months, of Decatur is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Eagle Drive Baptist Church in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins-Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Tracy Johnson, 43, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Cyrus W. Farver, 82, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Friday at Decatur Bible Church with family burial at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Pliny Andrews, 80, of Paradise is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur.

SERVICE for Harold Mahan Jr., 74, of Bridgeport is pending at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

NO SERVICE is planned at this time for Austin Horton Eustace, 87, of Bridgeport. Jones-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
