MAY WEATHER – We finished the month of May much drier than normal, but we did not set a record. Decatur received 2.2 inches of rain last month, more than 3 inches below normal for what is typically the wettest month of the year. Temperatures for the month were well above normal, with an average high temperature of 88 degrees. Temperatures in the month ranged from a high of 97 on May 26 to a low of 51 on May 6.

RAINFALL REPORT – Yesterday’s rainfall included .09 of an inch in Bridgeport and .07 in Decatur.

ARMSTRONG ARRAIGNMENT – Johnny Ray Armstrong entered a plea of not guilty at his arraignment on a murder charge yesterday. Armstrong, 37, was indicted last month for the murder of 20-year-old Bridgeport resident Ruben Dunlap earlier this year. Members of Dunlap’s family attended the brief court proceeding in Decatur wearing matching shirts and holding up a photo of Dunlap.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Wise County Parkinson’s Support Group meets 6 p.m. today at 609 Medical Center Drive, the old Fit-N-Wise. This month will feature a guest speaker.

STEM CAMP – Northwest ISD offers all students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity through fun, hands-on experiences at the STEM based TechnoCamp 2018. Among the many camps for kindergarten through eighth grade are drone, MakerSpace, robotics, Raspberry Pi and MakeyMakey. Information and registration can be found at technocamp.nisdtx.org.

PANHELLENIC SOCIETY – An informational brunch for the Wise County Panhellenic sorority alumnae will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Harvest Moon Farm, 2442 Preskitt Road in Decatur. All Wise County area college ladies who are interested in learning more about sorority recruitment (rush) and college Greek life are invited to attend. BLOOD DRIVE – Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive at James Wood Motors 9 a.m.-1 p.m. today.

BOARD TO DISCUSS SUPERINTENDENT CONTRACT – Decatur ISD trustees have called a special meeting for 6 p.m. today to evaluate the performance and discuss the contract of superintendent Judi Whitis.

FUNERALS – Graveside service for Mark Woods, 62, of Chico is 11 a.m. next Monday at Chico Cemetery. Family visitation is 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

SERVICE for Betty M. Oates, 72, of Chico is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL service for Bobby Dee Slaughter Sr., 43, and Bobby Dee Slaughter Jr., 15, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Friday at the Unified Body of Christ in Paradise. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

MEMORIAL service for Geneva Lahue, 90, of Paradise will be held in Arkansas at a later date. Jones-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Betty A. Wilson, 86, of Runaway Bay is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.
