LUNCH UPDATE – Decatur ISD Director of Child Nutrition Shelly Laaser gave an update to trustees Monday on the first four days of food service at the high school with a closed campus. The school is serving 408 meals daily, 89 more than last year. Cash sales have increased from $2,082 to $4,186. The participation of students eligible for free lunches increased from 50 percent to 63 percent. Trustees designated hazardous transportation routes on U.S. 81/287 and U.S. 380, opening bus service to students living within two miles of a school if they have to cross one of the roadways to get to campus.

VOLLEYBALL SHOWDOWNS – In a matchup of 2017 3A state tournament teams, the Boyd Lady Yellowjackets take on the Callisburg Lady Cats at North Central Texas College in Gainesville at 6 tonight. Boyd beat Callisburg over the weekend at the Glen Rose Tournament. Wise County rivals Chico and Alvord square off at Alvord at 6 p.m. In other action, Decatur heads to Peaster. Bridgeport travels to Saginaw. Northwest goes to Keller Central. Paradise will be in Ponder.

BOYD SCHOOLS START – Boyd ISD started classes this morning. This is the first day for the district’s school resource officer. The district has made all doors except the front doors of buildings emergency exits.

OZONE ACTION DAY – The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has issued an Ozone Action Day for the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which includes Wise County, today. Atmospheric conditions are expected to be favorable for producing high levels of ozone air pollution. Smoke from forest fires in western Canada and the northwestern U.S. is being pulled south into Texas by an intense low pressure system in the Midwest, which could cause hazy skies today across North Texas.

CHAMBER COFFEE NETWORK – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce August Coffee Network is 8-9 a.m. Wednesday at Lake Bridgeport City Hall. Mayor Ramon Galvan or Wanda Vick, city secretary, will be guest speaker.

BANNER DAY – Chico Public Library will receive its official Family Place Libraries banner today and is celebrating with a Family Place Open House 10 a.m.-noon. Parents and caregivers are invited to bring their young children out, explore the Family Place and discover what it means to have a certified Family Place Library in your community. REALTORS LUNCHEON – The Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors will hold a membership luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday at the Decatur Conference Center. Cost is $20 per person. GARDEN PRESENTATION – Texas A&M Agrilife Extension specialist Dotty Woodson will present a special seminar covering proper soil preparation, garden design and layouts, and disease and insect identification Thursday at the Wise County Fairgrounds. WISE COUNTY CHORUS KICK OFF – The Wise County Chorus will hold its Fall Kick-Off in the Worship Center of First Baptist Church of Paradise 7 p.m. today. This season, the Chorus will be preparing Christmas music to present in December as well as a variety of selections for performances in the spring. The Chorus has performed in various venues throughout Wise County since its inception in 2016. This intergenerational community chorus is led by Steve Horton, accompanied by Karen McGraw, and provides an outlet for creative expression to singers in the Wise County Area and beyond. It is open to ages 7th grade through adult.

FUNERAL for Joyce Anne Sosa, 72, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home. Graveside will be 2 p.m. Friday at Boerne City Cemetery.

MEMORIAL for Jimmie Adams, 87, of Haslet is 2-4 p.m. Saturday at VFW Avondale/Haslet No. 10374. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Acie Hobbs, 93, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Thomas Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

GRAVESIDE service for Billy Mack Garvin Sr., 70, of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Home-Decatur is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Earlene Flowers, 93, of Boyd is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
