BOYD GIVES COUNCILMAN EXTENSION – Boyd city council members tabled action on a leave of absence from fellow councilman Vince Estel to wait for a formal request. Estel missed his third straight meeting Tuesday. He works for the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office and was recently moved to second shift temporarily through the first of the year. The council will wait until Sept. 18 to act on the formal request.

BOYD JOINS COUNTY’S EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION SYSTEM – The Boyd city council voted to join Wise County’s emergency mass notification system, utilizing the civic ready mass notification system. The city will pay the county $500 for use. The city was previously paying $2,500 to use Blackboard Connect.

RAIN TOTALS – Rain fell over large portions of Wise County Wednesday. Decatur Municipal Airport received 0.28 of an inch. Bridgeport received 0.61 of an inch. There is a 40 percent chance for showers and storms today with a high of 86.

UNITED WAY KICKOFF – The United Way of Wise County will hold its kickoff campaign at 10:30 a.m. today at the Decatur Conference Center. The event includes lunch. The organization has set the goal at $450,000 for this fall’s fundraising efforts. The money from the fall fundraiser will help the 30 agencies it assists.

MOSQUITO FOGGING – The City of Decatur will conduct city-wide mosquito fogging tonight, weather permitting. The fogging will begin at 8 p.m. The pesticide being used is Masterline Kontrol 4-4. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors during the fogging process. Call the city at 940-393-0260 for information.

DECATUR FARMERS MARKET – The Decatur Farmers Market will reopen 8 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Fairgrounds with a selection of fall produce along with local honey, baked goods, jams, pickles, farm raised beef, free range eggs and artisan goods.

DHS MEET THE TEACHER – Decatur High School will host Meet the Teacher Night (Fall Open House) 6:30-8 p.m. Monday. Students and their families are invited to a welcome meeting for all parents and students in the DHS Auditorium from 6:30-6:45 p.m. Parents can then tour the high school to visit their teachers and classrooms.

CLAY SHOOT – The Boyd Lions Club will have its 2nd Annual Clay Shoot Sept. 22 in Boyd. The fundraiser benefits the club’s scholarship program and the Boyd Spirit of Christmas. To make a team, call Chip Fisher, 817-791-3522.

AFTERNOON PROGRAM – The Chico Public Library will hold an after school program from 4-5 p.m. for children of all ages. Call Michelle at 940-644-2330.

GARDEN CLUB MEETING – Bridgeport Garden Club, which serves all of Wise County, will hold its monthly meeting 11:30 a.m. today at the Bridgeport Community Center. The program will feature Kitty Hommer, Bexar County master gardener who will talk about rainwater harvesting with rain barrels. Lunch will be served, and it is open to the public.
