1 KILLED, 1 HURT IN WRECK – One person was killed and another seriously injured in a head-on collision south of Decatur Wednesday afternoon. The wreck happened on Farm Road 51 near County Road 3294, just north of Farm Road 3259 just after 2 p.m. Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Adam Lawson said a passenger car was southbound when, for an unknown reason, it veered into the northbound lane where it struck a pickup. The truck rolled over, landing upside down. The driver of the car, 25-year-old Ross S. Moore of Decatur, died at the scene, and the driver of the pickup, Todd A. Smith, 41, of Paradise, was taken by ground ambulance to Medical City Denton. The wreck shut down both lanes of traffic on FM 51.

FUNDRAISER WALK – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center will hold a “Once Around the Square” at the square in Jacksboro Saturday. This is a “race” for everyone. LEGO AT THE LIBRARY – Lego lovers are invited to join the after school fun at Chico Public Library at 4 p.m. today. Participants will create their own disaster island stories. Call Michelle, 940-644-2330.

PLANT SALE – The Bridgeport Animal Shelter will hold a patio plant sale 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Lowe’s in Bridgeport. All plant sales will go to a partner rescue solely to be used for the animals at this shelter.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY – The Decatur Cares monthly mobile food pantry will be at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur Saturday. Distribution is 8:30-10 a.m. in the church parking lot.

FALL FESTIVAL – The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Decatur will host a fall festival at noon Sunday. It will include a raffle, games and prizes.

BENEFIT STREET DANCE ON SATURDAY – Wise County Street Dance, benefiting local fire departments, is Saturday, immediately following Cruise Nights on the courthouse square. Zach Nytomt will open the night at 8 p.m., followed by Zac Wilkerson playing until 11 p.m. The stage will be set up on Trinity Street. There will be food trucks on site, but the event is BYOB. Admission is free, but donations for the fire departments will be accepted. You can also contribute by participating in the silent auction at Parker Properties, 206 W. Main Street, or buying raffle tickets for an AR-15 and a handgun. T-shirts will be for sale with proceeds benefiting the fire departments, and Air Evac Lifeteam will have a helicopter available for photos on the city hall parking lot.

REPUBLICAN MEETING – Wise County Republicans and Wise Republican Women will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Decatur Conference Center. These organizations meet the second Monday of each month at the Wise County Sheriff’s Office (unless otherwise announced, as is the case for the October meeting). GOLF TOURNEY – The Decatur Junior Woman’s Club 27th Annual Park Classic Golf Tournament is Friday at Decatur Golf Club. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with a 10 a.m. tee time. The cost is $400 per four-man team and includes lunch, beer and water. To register, text Jordan White, 940-389-8252.

They will be discussing college applications, scholarships, testing, financial aid and all other post secondary questions. SERVICE for Cyrus W. Farver, 82, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Friday at Decatur Bible Church with family burial at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

MASS of Christian burial for Pascual M. Vargas, 61, of Alvord is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary with burial at Alvord Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday with rosary said at 7 p.m. at the church. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Harlan Buckner, 90, of Chico is 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Cumby Cemetery in Chico. Family visitation is 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
