1 KILLED IN WRECK – A Wichita Falls resident died after her car hydroplaned and struck a guardrail on U.S. 81/287 in Rhome Wednesday afternoon. Cynthia Thompson, 54, was southbound on U.S. 81/287 with two other occupants in the vehicle when the vehicle lost control, said Rhome officer Brody Brown. After hydroplaning and striking the guardrail, the car came to rest in the median just north of Farm Road 3433. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. The other occupants, Brandon Bush, 36, and Jerry Johnson, 30, just suffered minors scrapes from the accident.

RHOME APPOINTS COUNCILMAN – The Rhome city council appointed Josh McCabe to the open Place 1 seat Tuesday. The seat became open last month after Charles Pennington missed three consecutive regular council meetings. McCabe will serve until May 2019 when the term expires.

RAINFALL REPORT – Yesterday’s rainfall totals included 1.83 inches in Decatur, 1.8 in Cottondale, 1.7 in Bridgeport, 1.3 in Greenwood and 0.98 in Alvord. Patchy drizzle and fog should stick around this morning, giving way to party cloudy skies this afternoon with a high around 62 degrees.

EARLY VOTING CONTINUES – It might not have been a record-setting day yesterday due to the rain, but early voting turnout was once again strong. The Wise County Elections Office reports 1,357 votes were cast Wednesday in the Nov. 6 election. Through the first three days of early voting, 6,058 people have cast a ballot. That’s already 2,000 more votes than the entire two week period of early voting from the last midterm election in 2014 when 4,045 early votes were cast. Early voting continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at the four locations: the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm; the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St.

RAFFLE FOR SCHOLARSHIP – Wise County Aggie Moms are selling raffle tickets for a 1911 .22 Browning pistol to raise money for the local Aggies scholarship fund. Ticket prices are $1 for one; $20 for 25 and can be purchased at Ronnie Uselton Farmers Insurance, 1006 W. Business U.S. 380 in Decatur. Drawing will be Nov. 13. You need not be present to win.

SPOOKTACULAR FALL FESTIVAL – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation’s Spooktacular Fall Festival is 5:30-8 p.m. Saturday at Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Avenue. The free event includes inflatables, games, cotton candy, hot dogs, popcorn, balloon animals and lots of candy. There will also be a costume contest hosted by Bridgeport Main Street.

INFORMATION SESSION – Information sessions on the proposed Wise County Emergency Service District No. 2 will be held for voters in the Boonsville-Balsora fire district 9 a.m.-noon Saturday and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Boonsville Community Center. Sessions are come and go to provide voters more information on the issue of fire protection funding proposal in the current election.

HALLOWEEN PARTY CANCELED – The RB Golf Club Halloween party slated for Saturday has been canceled.

CEMETERY WALKING TOUR – The Wise County Genealogical Society will sponsor a Cemetery Walking Tour at Decatur’s Oaklawn Cemetery 1-2 p.m. Saturday. Narrated life stories of five Decatur pioneers will be presented. Cost is $5 per person or $10 per family.

TEEN HALLOWEEN PARTY – Decatur Public Library will host a Teen Halloween Party 5-6 p.m. Friday. For more information call the library at 940-393-0290.

TRUNK-OR-TREAT – The Hills Nursing and Rehab in Decatur will hold a trunk-or-treat event 4:30-6 p.m. today.

MORE TRUNK-OR-TREAT – Stagecoach Rehab in Bridgeport will hold a trunk-or-treat event 5-7 p.m. today. It will include hot dogs, face painting, “punkin chunkin'” and a cake walk.

FALL FESTIVAL – Decatur Medical Lodge will have its family fall festival 5-7 p.m. today. Residents will pass out candy and there will be bounce houses, balloon animals, games, cotton candy and hot dogs.
