MAN EVADES OFFICERS – A man evaded officers on foot after crashing a motorcycle on Old Decatur Road near Alvord Wednesday morning. Officers searched the area for an hour according to Wise County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Craig Johnson. A K-9 unit was also unable to pick up the man’s scent. Johnson said a deputy saw the motorcycle, which was running terribly and also did not have a license plate. “The guy started to take off and fell over,” Johnson said. The man took off on foot after dumping the motorcycle, which turned out to be stolen.

CANDLELIGHT VIGIL – Wise Hope Shelter and Crisis Center will hold its annual candlelight vigil honoring survivors and raising awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month at 7 tonight at the Wise County Courthouse.

NORTHWEST FOOTBALL – The Northwest Texans will try to move to 3-0 in District 4-5A Division II tonight when they play host to O.D. Wyatt. Kick off is at 7.

FALL FESTIVAL – The Wise County Public Safety Fall Festival, hosted by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, is 6-8 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. Admission is free, and there will be free food, music and games. Local police departments, fire departments, EMS, Air Evac, Department of Public Safety, game wardens and other public service organizations will participate.

RAFFLE FOR SCHOLARSHIP – Wise County Aggie Moms are selling raffle tickets for a 1911 22 Browning pistol to raise money for the local Aggies scholarship fund. Ticket prices are $1 for one; $20 for 25 and can be purchased at Ronnie Uselton Farmers Insurance, 1006 W. Business U.S. 380 in Decatur. Drawing will be Nov. 13. You need not be present to win.

RHOME TO DISCUSS VACANCY – The Rhome city council will discuss filling the Place 1 vacancy on the council at its meeting at 7 tonight.

CRUISIN’ DAYS – The 31st annual Newark Cruisin’ Days is today through Saturday at 406 Hudson St. The event benefits the volunteer fire department. The carnival opens 6 p.m. today and Friday and at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The event will feature live music, bingo, vendors, cake auction, raffle drawing and fire department awards. Saturday’s schedule includes a parade at 10 a.m., car show at 2 p.m., followed by a barbecue dinner 5:30-7 p.m. The dance is 8-11 p.m. For more information call Dawn Killough, 817-692-4959.

DUMP CLOSURE – The Slidell dump site will be closed today.

RABBI TO SPEAK – Kingdom Men will host An Evening with Rabbi Jason Sobel 6:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church Decatur. Sobel connects ancient Jewish wisdom with contemporary teachings of Jesus. The event is free and open to the public.
