HOME PRICES DROP – The average home price in Wise County dropped to $225,000 for the 77 properties sold from the $244,450 in April. The number of homes on the market increased from 253 in April to 260 in May, bringing the months of inventory up to 3.3 months. TRASH CARTS COMING – Residents of Decatur will soon be getting new trash carts. In April, the city council approved a request by Waste Connections of Texas to provide residents with a green poly cart for household trash. City-issued trash containers will be distributed to all residential accounts at no cost. Distribution is scheduled to begin the week of June 25. Residents will continue to use the blue poly cart for recycled items. An updated list of recyclable items will be included on the city website (www.decaturtx.org). The new green poly cart will be for household trash only.

MOBILE SCRUB SALE – The Wise Health System Auxiliary will hold a mobile scrub sale 7 a.m.-6 p.m. today and 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday in the lobby of the hospital. The auxiliary will get 20 percent of the proceeds, which will be used to purchase hospital equipment.

CHICO LIBRARY SUMMER PROGRAM – The Chico Public Library will kick off its summer program for tweens and teens (ages 12 and up) 1-2 p.m. today. Participants will discuss the origins of hip-hop and create their own graffiti bookmarks. Call the Chico Public Library at 940-644-2330.

BASEBALL CAMP – Decatur High School is hosting a baseball camp for boys in grades first through ninth June 18-21 from 2-5 p.m. each day at the Decatur baseball field. Pre-registration is $70. It is $80 at the camp. Checks should be made payable to Tommy Maddox. Group and individual instruction will be given by Decatur staff as well as alumni, collegiate players and other local coaches. Instruction will be given on pitching, relays, base running and bunting. Each boy must have his own bat, glove and helmet.

MARY’S GIFT – Wise Health Foundation offers a program called Mary’s Gift providing free mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women and men of Wise County. Upcoming Mary’s Gift dates are June 27, July 25, Aug. 22, and Sept. 26. Other dates are available. Call 940-626-1329 to complete your application and schedule your appointment. RHOME COUNCIL MEETING – Rhome City Council will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the Community Center, 261 N. School Road. Council members will take their oath of office.

FORMER POLICE CHIEF DIES – Former Decatur Police Chief Herman William Conway, 70, has died. He served as the local police chief in the mid-70s. Funeral for the Forestburg resident is 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Forestburg with burial at Perryman Cemetery in Forestburg. White Family Funeral Home in Bowie is handling arrangements.

FUNERALS – Service for Harold Ray Robinson, 82, of Decatur is 2 p.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery.

GRAVESIDE service for Dale Ray Childers, 62, of Decatur is 10 a.m. Saturday at Oaklawn Cemetery. Family visitation is 7-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins-Decatur.

MEMORIAL service for Travis Downs, 30, of Fort Worth is 1 p.m. Saturday at The Bay Community Church in Runaway Bay. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Marita Marney, 84, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport with a private family burial at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL for former Bridgeport band director Fred Stockdale, 84, is 1:30 p.m. June 29 at the Decatur Conference Center in the Chisholm Trail Suites with visitation to follow.

FUNERAL for Robert “Bob” Whatley, 83, of Wichita Falls, formerly of Wise County, is 10 a.m. today in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park with graveside service to follow at Cumby Cemetery in Chico.

FUNERAL for Christopher Lee Bolden, 59, is noon today at Alexander’s Midway Chapel in Springtown. Family visitation is 11 a.m.-noon at the funeral home.
