TASTE OF WISE – The 8th Annual Taste of Wise is 5-8:30 p.m. today at the Decatur Conference Center. For $10, you can sample food, drinks and appetizers from restaurants across the county. There will also be live entertainment, door prizes and cash giveaways. The event is split into two different sessions: 5-6:30 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. To buy 5 p.m. tickets, go to wcmess.com/taste5. To buy 7 p.m. tickets, go to wcmess.com/taste7. You can also buy tickets at the door. Entertainment is Judi Conger, Dakota Burns, Jerry and Lisa Burnett, and Brandon Gentry.

BAKE SALE – DATCU will have a bake sale Friday in the lobby. All proceeds will go to Wise County United Way.

PLANT SALE – The Bridgeport Animal Shelter will hold a patio plant sale 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Lowe’s grocery store in Bridgeport. All plant sales will go to a partner rescue solely to be used for the animals at this shelter.

BRISKET FUNDRAISER – The Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 779 will cook briskets that will be ready for pick up between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. To order a brisket call 940-255-2782 or 817-992-4180. Cost is $60 per brisket.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY – The Decatur Cares monthly mobile food pantry will be at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur Saturday. Distribution is 8:30-10 a.m. in the church parking lot.

NO MEALS ON MONDAY – The Wise County Committee on Aging with not deliver meals to their Meals on Wheels clients Monday in observance of Labor Day. A special meal will be sent out to all clients today.

MOSQUITO FOGGING – The City of Decatur will conduct city-wide mosquito fogging tonight, weather permitting. The fogging will begin at 8 p.m. The pesticide being used is Masterline Kontrol 4-4. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors during the fogging process. Call the city at 940-393-0260 for more information.

ALVORD ISD PUBLIC HEARING – The Alvord School Board will hold a public hearing on the proposed tax rate and budget for the 2018-2019 school year at 7 tonight at the administration building, 100 Mosley Lane. The school board is considering an increase in the debt service portion of the tax rate between 1-cent and 3.424-cents per $100 of taxable value. The board will take action on the tax rate and budget at their meeting immediately following the public hearing.

CHICO ISD TO HOLD HEARING ON BUDGET, TAX RATE – Taxpayers in Chico ISD will have a chance to comment on the proposed budget and tax rate for the 2018-2019 school year at a public hearing at 6:30 tonight in Room 150 at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road. The school board has proposed the same tax rate as last year: $1.29 per $100 of taxable value.

FUNERALS – Service for Connie Gold, 62, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

SERVICE for Susan Ray, 63, of Runaway Bay will be held at a later date. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Jerry A. Doss, 79, of Fort Worth is 11 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the chapel.

MEMORIAL service for Chan Horne Sr., 73, of Springtown is 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Catholic Church in Bridgeport. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport.
