HEAT RETURNS – After a few days of below normal temperatures, the heat returns today and will last through the weekend. The high today is expected to be 97 with a heat index as high as 103. Temperatures will approach triple digits Friday and Saturday. Today is also an ozone action day with high levels of ozone air pollution expected.

COUNTY PUBLIC HEARINGS – Wise County is having a public hearing for its proposed tax rate and budget for fiscal year 2019 at 6:30 p.m. today at Weatherford College Wise County. County commissioners have proposed a tax rate of 36 cents per $100 property valuation, 1.89 cents less than last year. It will help fund a $32.9 million budget. They will hold a second public hearing at 7 p.m. for the proposed branch campus maintenance tax for Weatherford College. Commissioners have proposed a 4.4-cent tax for FY 19, a slight decrease from the current 4.6148.

FOOTBALL SCRIMMAGES – The Boyd Yellowjackets will travel to Bridgeport to take on the Bulls tonight in the final tuneup before the regular season for both teams. The action starts at 5 with the junior varsity. Fans are asked to bring a canned food or make a monetary donation to Wise Area Relief Mission for admission. In other action, Collinsville heads to Paradise for a scrimmage, starting at 5 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL ACTION – Several Wise County volleyball teams will be in action today in their final tournaments of the season. Boyd heads to Argyle. Decatur will play at Frenship’s West Texas Spikefest. Northwest travels south to the San Marcos Tournament. Paradise will be at the Fort Worth Southwest Tournament.

CHISHOLM TRAIL DAYS – The Chisholm Trail Days Rodeo runs today through Saturday. This year, the proceeds will benefit local fire departments. To be a sponsor, call Zane Lasater, 940-255-9375. Rodeo performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is $8. Kids age 12 and under are free. Slack is 7 p.m. today, and admission is free. The parade is 5:30 p.m. Saturday in downtown Decatur, followed by a hamburger supper at 6:30 p.m. on the Wise County Fairgrounds. To enter the parade, call Frieda Lasater, 940-399-9558.

MOSQUITO FOGGING – The city of Decatur will conduct city-wide mosquito fogging beginning at 8 tonight, weather permitting. The pesticide being used is Masterline Kontrol 4-4. Residents are encouraged to stay indoors during the fogging process. Call the city at 940-393-0260 for information.

MEET THE TEACHER – Prairie View and Seven Hills elementary schools will hold their Meet the Teacher events tonight. Prairie View’s is 5-7 p.m., and Seven Hills’ is 5:30-7 p.m.

CLAY SHOOT – The Wise Health Foundation will hold its annual Clay Shoot Friday at the Fossil Pointe Sporting Grounds. Check-in is at 8 a.m. with the shoot kicking-off at 9. LITTLE LEAGUE – Signups for fall Decatur Little League Baseball is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday and noon-1 p.m. Sunday at Decatur City Hall, 201 E. Walnut St. For ages Tball-14U. DECATUR MINI CHEER CAMP – Decatur High School Mini Cheer Camp is Aug. 27-29. Pre-kindergarten through first grade campers will attend 4-5 p.m., and second through sixth graders will attend 5-6:30 p.m. Everyone will receive a T-shirt and a goody bag that includes a group photo with Regal the Eagle. They will also perform with the varsity cheerleaders at the Sept. 7 Decatur Eagles’ football game. Cost is $40 for the younger age group and $50 for the older age group. Registration forms are available at the elementary schools, the intermediate school and the Decatur Chamber of Commerce. Kids can also register at the door.
