HOTEL AT CONFERENCE CENTER TO OPEN SOON – Fairfield Inn and Suites at the Decatur Conference Center is expected to open next week. A representative from the hotel confirmed the opening date is set for Tuesday, April 24. Construction on the hotel by Marriott began in Oct. 2016. It was originally expected to open by late 2017, but Decatur Building Official Wayne Smith said changes had to be made to the plans for the building’s guards and screens. Those changes were approved by the city in late February. Fairfield Inn and Suites is expected to bring multi-day events and conventions to the Decatur Conference Center.

SAVING MONEY – The Decatur Water Board Wednesday approved the re-financing of $3.9 million of outstanding debt. City Manager Brett Shannon said the action will save about $267,172 on the remaining 10-years of the debt issuance. The action did not extend the time for debt retirement which will occur in 2027. The Wise County Water Supply District – an entity of the City of Decatur – purchases un-treated water from Lake Bridgeport for Decatur’s water treatment system.

WIND ADVISORY – The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a wind advisory from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today for areas including Wise County. Sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph with occasional gusts near 40 mph are expected. The forecast includes a high of 85 degrees today and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. overnight. The NWS has also issued a fire weather watch from noon to 10 p.m. Friday for our area.

SHOP DOWNTOWN BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport Main Street is sponsoring a couple of events over the next couple of days. The Spring Shopping and Dining Spree is today and Friday. For every $20 you spend with participating Halsell Street merchants, you will receive a ticket for a chance to win a $500 cash prize. You do not have to be present to win, and the winner will be announced Saturday. Tonight is also Girls Night Out. The public is invited to sip, shop and dine in downtown Bridgeport from 5-7 p.m. Some of the Glitzy Girl Trailers will be on display. CPR/FIRST AID CLASS – Alvord Fire Department is having a CPR/First Aid class 9 a.m. Saturday at the fire station, 108 N. Trappier St. If you need a certification card this class will cost $25. CITY-WIDE GARAGE SALE – Bridgeport’s City-Wide Garage Sale is Friday and Saturday, and the city will waive the garage sale permit fees. Maps of garage sale listings are available at city hall and the Bridgeport Library. Call Bridgeport Parks and Recreation at 940-683-3480.

NEWARK CLEAN-UP DAY – The city of Newark will hold a city-wide clean-up day 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. Six large trash bins will be at city hall, 209 Hudson. You must be a resident in order to dump trash.

HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE – The Decatur High School varsity baseball team will recognize local first responders and celebrate and honor all who have served our country and community at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the baseball field.

DAZZLE ME PINK – The Dazzle Me Pink fashion show and luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. April 18 at the Decatur Conference Center. All the proceeds benefit Women’s Services and the Mary’s Gift program. MEMORIAL service for Coy Campbell, 80, of Jacksboro will be held at a later date in Center. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Tammy K. Cato, 59, of Rhome is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

FUNERAL for Bessie Ferguson, 76, of Rhome is 1 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel in Boyd. Family visitation is 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
