SHOOTING DEATH – Authorities Sunday released the identity of the man who died with a gunshot wound in the Shale Creek neighborhood off Texas 114 near the Wise and Denton County line Friday. Jonathon Tumbo, 40, of Rhome was found by officers from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office with a gunshot wound to the chest when they responded to a domestic disturbance call. Mandy Hays, justice of the peace, Precinct 3, ordered an autopsy, and Tumbo’s body was taken to the Dallas County Medical Examiners Office. “The death is still under investigation,” said Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin. A woman at the residence was uninjured. At this time no charges have been filed. The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. Friday on Forest Lawn Road.

HOMECOMING PARADE – The Decatur High School homecoming parade is today in downtown Decatur. All parking on Main and Walnut Streets on the square will be closed at 3 p.m. for the duration of the parade. Floats will line up at 4 p.m. on the visitors side of Eagle Stadium, and the parade starts at 6 p.m. A pep rally will be held at the stadium after the parade. Boyd and Paradise High Schools are also having their homecoming parades this evening. Boyd’s starts at 6 p.m., and the Paradise parade is at 6:30.

WEEKEND RAINFALL – Rainfall totals from the weekend included 0.72 of an inch in Alvord and 0.38 in Decatur. Today’s forecast includes a 20 percent chance of rain.

DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP – Wise Health System, the Wise and Montague County Medical Society and Renew Home Health will host a Diabetes Support Group 6:30 tonight in the Education Room of the hospital in Decatur. Dr. Brad Faglie will host a question-and-answer session on the trials and triumphs of living with diabetes and plans of action. If you have diabetes or know someone with diabetes, you are invited. If it’s your first meeting, come at 6:15 to meet Dr. Faglie and get an introduction to the basics.

DEMOCRATIC PARTY MEETING – The Wise County Democratic Party will host their monthly social at 6:30 tonight at 106 S. Trinity St. in Decatur. Candidate signs will be available for pickup.

DIABETES CLASSES – Total Diabetes Care at Wise Health System will hold diabetes education classes in Decatur today. The beginner class will be offered at 3 p.m., and the prediabetes class will be offered at 4 p.m. Both classes will be held at Wise Health System in the Education Room on the second floor. The classes are intended to help those with diabetes better understand and manage the disease. Classes are free and will be taught by Dick Gilley RN, CCRN, CDE. No RSVP required. Call Gilley at 940-626-1890.

SOCIETY MEETING – The Wise County Fossil, Mineral and Rock Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at a new location, Pleasant View Baptist Church, 886 CR 1326. Refreshments will be served. The program topic will be Machu Picchu, and a “rock show and tell” will take place after the program. The club meets the third Tuesday of each month and meetings are open to people in Wise County who are interested in rocks and lapidary arts.

OPEN HOUSE – An open house and ribbon cutting for Jenny’s Hope in the new offices of Wise County Christian Counseling is 4:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at 1650 S. FM 51, Suite 400.

CONSTITUTION DAY – The Daughters of the American Revolution John B. Denton Chapter will host their 8th Annual Live Reading of the U.S. Constitution 1:30-3 p.m. today at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park, ending with the ringing of the bells across America.

FUNERALS – Graveside service for Shawn Grundy, 49, of Decatur is 11 a.m. today at Bethel Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Anne Lester, 84, of Slidell/Greenwood is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Baptist Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the church. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Melvin “Dodie” Sergent, 66, of Rhome is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.

MEMORIAL service for Janice Shepard, 85, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Saturday at Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur.
