DECATUR WINS STATE – The Decatur Eagles were crowned 4A cross country state champions Saturday, holding off Andrews to claim the fifth title in school history. Junior Triston Read was Decatur’s top finisher, turning in a 16:15.40 in the 5K for 10th overall. The Decatur Lady Eagles also got on the podium, claiming silver behind strong efforts from Hanul Lewis and Jentry Lamirand. The duo paced Decatur to a second-place finish, clocking 11:55.87 and 11:57.72 for 11th and 12th. It was the Lady Eagles’ first medal since 2014. The Boyd Yellowjackets finished ninth in Class 3A with 213 points. Gauge Fahlin ran a 16:45 for 14th. Paradise sophomore Jana Messenger was 48th in the Class 3A girls 3,200, running a 12:53. Chico sophomore Raul Warnock placed 45th in the Class 2A boys 5K with a 17:59. In Class A, the Slidell Greyhounds were 7th overall behind a 33rd-place finish from Hunter Horner. He ran a 17:42.

BOIL WATER NOTICE – Boyd residents are asked to boil water before consumption today. Boyd crews worked throughout Sunday morning to replace a ruptured water line. During the repairs, water pressure fell below the state mandated requirements, prompting the boil water notice. Boyd City Administrator Greg Arrington said he hopes that samples are tested today and the notice is lifted by the end of the day.

ELECTION DAY – In early voting 15,157 voters turned out to cast ballots. The polls will reopen at 7 a.m. Tuesday for Election Day at the 25 precincts around the county. The polls will close at 7 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFFS – The Decatur Lady Eagles will battle Stephenville in the 4A Region I quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mineral Wells High School. With a win, Decatur would advance to the 4A Region I tournament at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene this weekend. The Boyd Lady Jackets will meet Holliday in the 3A Region I quarterfinal at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jacksboro High School. With a win, Boyd would advance to the 3A Region I tournament at Lubbock Cooper High School this weekend.

DIABETES CLASS – Total Diabetes Care at Wise Healthcare is now offering monthly diabetes education classes on the first Monday of the month at Wise Clinical Care, 2202 US 380 Suite 112, in Bridgeport. This month’s class is at 3 p.m. today. The prediabetes class is at 4 p.m. The classes are intended to help educate those with diabetes better understand and manage the disease. BUSINESS EXPO – The Wise County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo and Luncheon is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at the Decatur Conference Center. The cost is $20 and includes lunch.
