PRIMARY RUNOFF EARLY VOTING – Early voting for the May 22 primary runoff election begins today and runs through Friday. Voting will take place 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through Friday at four voting locations: the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St.; Alvord City Hall at 215 W. Elm St. and the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave. On the Republican ballot, voters in Precinct 2 will choose between Kim Redman and Callie Watts-Manning for justice of the peace. In the Precinct 3 constable race, the ballot includes Terry N. Terry and Charles B. Applewhite. Precinct 4 voters will decide between Todd Bailey and Willie Garrett for justice of the peace. The Democratic ballot includes Lupe Valdez and Andrew White for governor. If you didn’t vote in the primary election, you are still eligible to vote in either party’s runoff. However, if you did vote in the primary, you can only vote in that same party’s primary runoff.

EAGLES WIN AREA TITLE – Decatur beat Princeton 7-1 in Game 3 Saturday afternoon to win the 4A Region II area title. The Eagles won Game 1, lost Game 2 and then took Game 3 behind a strong start from Chase Oberle. Oberle allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings. He struck out three and walked four. Bodi Rascon and Cole Davis drove in two runs each. Decatur advances to the 4A Region II quarterfinal and will take on Crandall later this week.

LADY EAGLES RALLY TO ADVANCE – The Decatur Lady Eagles won Games 2 and 3 Saturday to win the 4A Region II quarterfinal series over Bonham 2-1. Decatur took Game 2 10-0 and Game 3 6-5 in nine innings. Brison Hesteande put Decatur up 5-4 in the top of the 9th in Game 3. Tristyn Trull then plated Hesteande, which proved to be the deciding run. The Lady Eagles advance to the 4A Region II semifinal and will play Rusk later this week.

WISE COUNTY ATHLETES MEDAL – Northwest’s Cooper McDonald and Bridgeport’s Jadon Maddux claimed medals at the state track meet in Austin this past weekend. McDonald took third in the 5A discus, throwing 169-6. Maddux took third in the 4A 100, clocking a personal-best 10.51. Decatur senior Christian Isaac finished fourth in the 4A 800. Isaac Hacker took eighth in the 4A long jump. Paradise’s Maddie Mitschke finished eighth in the 3A 300 hurdles. Alvord’s Christina Thomas took eighth in the 2A discus.

‘MURDER’ FOR A CAUSE – The Wise County Committee on Aging will hold a Murder Mystery Fundraising Dinner and silent auction 6 p.m. Friday at Chico City Hall, 400 S. Hovey Street, and proceeds benefit Meals on Wheels of Wise County. Last day to make a reservation is Tuesday. WCCA Executive Director Amy Pegues hopes to raise a minimum of $50,000. APPRAISAL PROTESTS – Property owners have until Tuesday, or the 30th day after notice of appraised value is delivered, whichever is later, to file a dispute with the Appraisal Review Board. You can find ARB Notice of Protest forms online at wise-cad.com/forms.

SOCIETY MEETING – The Wise County Fossil, Rock and Mineral Society will meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at Weatherford College Wise County. The program “Surveying in the Permian Basin” will be given by Dr. Davey Edwards. Visitors are welcome.

COMMUNITY COALITION MEETING – The Wise County Community Coalition meets at noon today at Pizza Hut in Decatur. The topic will be Juneteenth, and Emily Pivoda with Star Council will be guest speaker.

FUNERAL for Richard W. Hale, 46, of Decatur is 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.
