1 HURT IN ROLLOVER WRECK – One person was flown to a Fort Worth hospital following a one-vehicle rollover on U.S. 81/287 in New Fairview Sunday morning. A pickup was southbound on U.S. 81/287 around 9:30 a.m. when the driver ran off the shoulder into a ditch, hit a culvert, went airborne and then into a roll. The pickup came to rest upside down in a ditch on the west side of the roadway, just north of County Road 4421. The driver was briefly trapped until first responders could get him out. The single occupant, a man with an Alvarado address, was flown from the scene to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. Southbound U.S. 81/287 was reduced to one lane for about 1 1/2 hours, and it was shut down briefly while the helicopter landed on the roadway.

UTILITY WORK TO CLOSE U.S. 81/287 – All lanes of U.S. 81/287 near the intersection of Farm Road 1810 in Decatur will be closed temporarily between 10 p.m. and midnight Thursday for utility work. Two full closures lasting approximately 15 minutes are anticipated, said Texas Department of Transportation spokesperson Bethany Kurtz. “Signs, messages boards and traffic control devices will be posted in the area,” Kurtz said. “The closures are needed as part of TxDOT’s project to upgrade the flashing signals at the intersection of U.S. 81/287 and FM 1810.” Oncor Electric Delivery crews will be relocating poles for the project. Oncor Area Manager Sabrina Easley said the utility provider asked for the closures. “There’s a couple of poles we have to move. For the crews to work safely, we asked for the rolling stops,” Easley said. “We hope to minimize the stoppage but want our crews to be safe.”

TRUCK DRIVER HURT IN FRIDAY WRECK – A truck driver was flown to Medical City Denton after rolling over into an embankment off the U.S. 81/287 exit off Texas 114 in Rhome Friday morning. A Bowie fireman who witnessed the wreck helped extricate the driver, a 54-year-old female Dallas resident. She sustained serious injuries, said Rhome Police Sgt. Brody Brown. “Probably the wind was involved with this,” Brown said. “The witness we have doesn’t think she was going fast.” The wreck occurred around 9:15 a.m. The air ambulance arrived to transport the injured at 9:40 a.m.
