COUNCIL DENIES PLAT – On the advice of their city attorney, the Rhome City Council Thursday denied the preliminary plat for the Morris Street Townhomes Addition. The attorney advised the council to take the action due to a question of ownership of a small parcel of the 3.736-acre property.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – Tonight’s local high school football games include Decatur at Midlothian Heritage, Bridgeport at Sanger, Boyd at Lake Worth, Chico at Era, Alvord at Santo and Granbury Cornerstone at Victory Christian. GRAPEVINE STOPS NORTHWEST – Grapevine rolled to a 56-21 win over Northwest Thursday night. Texan quarterback Austin Ahmad threw four interceptions in the loss, as the Mustang defense stymied Northwest’s offense. Running back DeMareus Hosey was held to under 100 yards for the first time this season. Northwest managed just one second half touchdown. The Texans fell to 1-2 on the season with the loss.

VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE – Tonight’s volleyball games include Northwest at Denton Ryan, Abilene Wylie at Decatur, Bridgeport at Burkburnett, Boyd at Paradise and Alvord at Tioga.

SATURDAYS ON THE SQUARE – The first Saturday on the Square is Saturday in downtown Decatur. 4 Girls Fire Forged Pizza and Sweet Frogs Frozen Yogurt will be set up on State Street from 5-9 p.m., and local artists will be featured. There will also be vendors, and shops along the square will be open. Organizers hope to make this a monthly event.

LIBRARY BOOK SALE – The Decatur Public Library is having a book sale 10 a.m. to close today and Saturday. Fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, DVDs and books on CD are available.

BLOOD DRIVE – Walmart in Decatur is hosting a Carter BloodCare blood drive 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m. today in the parking lot. For more information or to schedule an appointment time, call Karina Holcombe at 817-751-9558.

BINGO – The Knights of Columbus Council 9644 is sponsoring a Bingo Night 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Lions Club Hall, 1107 8th Street.

DECATUR FARMERS MARKET – The Decatur Farmers Market will reopen 8 a.m. Saturday at the Wise County Fairgrounds with a selection of fall produce along with local honey, baked goods, jams, pickles, farm raised beef, free range eggs and artisan goods. The Texas Coalition for Animal Protection will offer low-cost vaccinations from 10 a.m.-noon.

CONSTITUTION READERS NEEDED – Daughters of the American Revolution John B. Denton Chapter are looking for readers for their upcoming 8th Annual Live Reading of the U.S. Constitution on Monday. The event will be at the Wise County Veterans Memorial Park at 1:30 p.m. If you would like to read a part call Amy at 940-577-3192.

FUNERAL for Anne Lester, 84, of Slidell/Greenwood is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Baptist Church with burial at Greenwood Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at the church.

MEMORIAL for Susan Ray, 63, of Runaway Bay is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL for John Schneck, 53, of Decatur will be held at a later date. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Ernest Partin, 47, of Boyd is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church Boyd with burial at Boyd Cemetery. Family visitation is 5:30-8 p.m. today at the church. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Morris Burcham, 84, of Rhome is 2 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Chapel in Boyd with private family burial. Family visitation is 4-6 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins-Boyd.

MEMORIAL service for AC Griffin, 90, of Greenwood is 10 a.m. today at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Jones Family Funeral Home in Decatur is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Lynda Harris, 65, of Paradise is 2 p.m. today at Prairie Mound Cemetery. Jones-Decatur is handling arrangements.
