LAST DAY OF EARLY VOTING – Today’s your last chance to vote early in next Tuesday’s election. Voting continues 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today at the four early voting locations: the Wise County Elections Office, 200 S. Trinity St. in Decatur; Alvord City Hall, 215 W. Elm; the Boyd Community Center, 420 E. Morton Ave.; and the Bridgeport Law Enforcement Center, 1000 Thompson St. Yesterday, another 861 early votes were cast.

VOLLEYBALL – Boyd beat Hamilton 3-0 in the 3A Region I area round Thursday at Mineral Wells. They will play the winner of Holliday vs. Dublin in the 3A Region I quarterfinal next week. In tonight’s volleyball playoff action, Decatur will play Greenwood at 5 p.m. at Abilene High School in the 4A Region I area round.

FOOTBALL – Last night Northwest defeated Carter Riverside 71-0. Tonight’s games include Burkburnett at Decatur, Iowa Park at Bridgeport, Boyd at Brock, Paradise at Bowie, Chico at Alvord and Azle Christian at Victory Christian.

CROSS COUNTRY STATE MEET – The cross country season culminates Saturday with the UIL cross country championships at Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park. Four Wise County teams and two individuals will compete. The Decatur Eagles finished fourth at the 4A Region I meet, qualifying for state for the first time since 2014. The Lady Eagles took second at regionals, advancing to state for the 16th straight year. The Boyd Yellowjackets won 3A Region I, edging second-place Tornillo 89-91. It is the second straight year Boyd qualified for state. The Slidell Greyhounds were the fourth and final team to qualify, taking fourth in 1A Region III. Paradise sophomore Jana Messenger qualified for state individually, as well as Chico sophomore Raul Warnock.

DECATUR SWIRL – The eighth annual Decatur Swirl event is 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the Decatur Square. The night includes samples from local eateries paired with Texas wines. The Swirl After Party will feature music from Zac Wilkerson. All proceeds benefit Decatur Main Street. Tickets are available at decaturswirl.com for $29.99. At the door, tickets are $35. Early Bird VIP tickets are $60.

MUSEUM OPEN HOUSE – This year marks the 125th anniversary of the completion of the building currently occupied by the Wise County Heritage Museum. The former administration building for the Northwest Texas Baptist College and Decatur Baptist College was completed in 1893. The Decatur Baptist College began 120 years ago in 1898. To celebrate the two milestones, the Wise County Historical Society will hold a free come-and-go open house 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the museum. Donations will be accepted.

BOOK SALE – The Friends of the Library are hosting their Fall Book Sale at the Bridgeport Public Library today and Saturday during normal library hours. It includes a wide selection of books, DVDs and more.

PLANT SALE – Decatur High School ag dept plant sale is 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the DHS Greenhouse. It will feature a wide selection of mums, pansies and violas.

CLINIC NAME CHANGE – Faith Community Health System has acquired the Alvord Medical Clinic. As of Nov. 1, it is now called Faith Community Rural Health Clinic-Alvord.

FALL BACK – Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday. Set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed Saturday night.

BENEFIT CAR SHOW – A car show will be held noon-4 p.m. Saturday at Boyd Mini Storage in Boyd. All proceeds benefit Daniel Stone’s cancer treatment. Entry fee is $20, and registration starts at 11 a.m. Awards will be announced at 3 p.m. For more information, call Charlotte Collins at 817-727-1238.

CAR SHOW AND POKER RUN – The Boyd High School class of 2022 will hold a car show and poker run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Boyd High School, 700 Knox Ave. Car registration is 7:30-9 a.m., and the cost is $20 per car. The motorcycle poker run registration is 7 a.m. with departure at 8 a.m. The cost is $15 per driver and $5 per passenger. There will be a 50/50 raffle along with vendors and food trucks. FUNERALS – Service for Jimmy Hunt, 74, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur with burial in Sweetwater. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Karin Davidson, 65, of Bridgeport will be held at a later date. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Phillip Wyner, 56, of Lake Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Marcy Pearce Caldwell, 90, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. today at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL for Patsy Harrison, 90, of Alvord is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport. Family visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

FUNERAL for Danny Cooper, 71, of Boyd is 2 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

MEMORIAL for Michael Dwayne Gill, 49, is 10 a.m. today at Highridge Church in Fort Worth. Alexander’s Midway Funeral Home in Springtown is handling arrangements.
