O’MEARA NAMED WCWC DEAN – Dr. Daniel O’Meara has been named as the new dean at Weatherford College Wise County, the college announced Thursday. O’Meara will relocate to Wise County from Hastings, Neb., where he serves as the associate dean of instruction – academic education at Central Community College. Becki Byrd has served as interim WCWC dean during the search. O’Meara will report for duty June 4.

DISD TEACHERS OF THE YEAR – Julie Siebold and Katie Hicks were named Teachers of the Year at last night’s Decatur Education Foundation Gala at the Decatur Conference Center. Siebold, who teaches at Rann Elementary, is Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Hicks, who teaches at McCarroll Middle School, is Secondary Teacher of the Year. Also recognized at the gala were J.E. and Betty Carson, Friends of the Foundation; DISD retirees; and the Top 10 DHS graduates and their impact teachers. Jill Eder, Class of 1967; Blake Workman, Class of 1927; and Ricky Terrell, Class of 1970, were inducted into the DISD Athletic Hall of Fame.

BOYD ISD KEEPS OFFICERS – Seven months after moving into the role of board president, Bill Childress was reappointed to the post by his fellow Boyd ISD trustees Thursday night. Jason Hammond was reappointed vice president and Luttrell as secretary during the board’s annual reorganization.

SCOTTISH FESTIVAL – The Texas Scottish Festival and Highland Games will be held today through Sunday at the Wise County Fairgrounds in Decatur. Hours are 5 p.m.-midnight today, 9 a.m.-midnight Saturday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. The festival will include Highland Games, food, vendors, music and activities for kids. BUTTERFIELD STAGE DAYS – Bridgeport’s 36th annual Butterfield Stage Days Festival is this weekend at Harwood Park. The carnival in the park continues through Saturday night. The Stage Days parade is 5:30 p.m. today through downtown Bridgeport. The festival begins 10 a.m. Saturday. The Butterfield Stage Days PRCA Ram Rodeo starts at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday at 917 Farm Road 920. Tickets are $12, and kids under 12 get in free. STATE TRACK – Seven Wise County athletes will compete at the UIL state track championships today and Saturday at the University of Texas at Austin. Northwest’s Jazzmine Harvey is competing in the high jump while teammate Cooper McDonald is vying for a title in the discus. From Decatur, Christian Isaac is running in the 800 and teammate Isaac Hacker is competing in the long jump. Bridgeport sophomore Jadon Maddox is the only athlete from Wise County to qualify in two events, and will run in the 100 and 200. Paradise’s Maddie Mitschke will run in the 300 hurdles after earning a wild card berth at regionals. Alvord junior Christina Thomas will compete in the discus.

SOFTBALL SENDOFF – A public sendoff for the Decatur Lady Eagles softball team is 2:45 p.m. today at the DHS parking lot. The community is invited. Decatur and Bonham will meet in the 4A Region II quarterfinal series at Prosper High School. Game 1 is set for 7 p.m. today. Game 2 is at 5 p.m. Saturday. The third game, if necessary, will follow game 2.

BASEBALL PLAYOFFS – The Decatur Eagles and Princeton Panthers will square off in a 4A Region II area series Friday and Saturday at Lewisville Hebron High School. Game 1 is at 7 p.m. today. Game 2 is set for noon Saturday with game 3, if necessary, following.

REALTOR LUNCHEON – UNT professor Dr. John Baen will speak at the Wise County Realtor Luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. today at the Decatur Conference Center. Cost is $20 per person.

BULL RIDING – The Wise County Cowboy Church Built God Tough Bull Riding event is Saturday at 2070 Old Denton Road in Decatur. Entry is 6 p.m. and the event is at 7.
