RAINY AFTERNOON – A welcomed storm rolled through Wise County Thursday afternoon bringing beneficial rain. A total of 0.38 inches of rain was measured at Decatur Municipal Airport. Bridgeport Airport received 1.26 inches. There’s a 20 percent chance for more rain this morning. Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 90s today and through the weekend.

SALES TAX RECEIPTS INCREASE – The June report from the Texas Comptroller showed an increase in April sales tax revenue in Wise County and seven cities in the county. The county’s revenue was up 18.9 percent compared to April 2017. Decatur brought in 12.23 percent more. Find a full story on the sales tax receipts in this weekend’s Messenger.

ALL-NIGHT RIDE – Northwest OHV Park, along with Bridgeport Parks and Recreation, is hosting an all-night ride Saturday into Sunday, a twist on their usual off-road fare. The park will open at 8 a.m. Saturday and remain open until 7 p.m. Sunday. Cost is the daily fee, plus $15 to stay Saturday night and Sunday. The park is at 2914 S. State Highway 101 in Bridgeport.

BALLET PERFORMANCE – “Cinderella and the Glass Slipper” will be performed by the dancers of Wise Ballet and Music Academy at the Decatur High School Theater this weekend. More than 100 dancers, ages 3 to adult, will take to the stage in two performances – 7 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

DIVE-IN MOVIE – Bridgeport Box Office will present the movie “Deep” Friday at Bridgeport City Pool. Pool admission is required, and concessions are available for purchase. The pool opens at noon, and the movie will start at dusk. Call 940-683-3480.

KIDS FISHING DERBY – The Kids All-American Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Decatur Rotary Club and the U.S. Forest Service, is June 9 at Black Creek Lake on the Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands. Registration is at 7:30 a.m., and fishing is 8-11. There are three age groups: 1-7 years old, 8-12, and 13-17. Prizes will be awarded in each division for largest fish, most fish and smallest fish. It’s a catch-and-release derby.

FEEDING WISE KIDS – The Feeding Wise Kids summer feeding program continues its Friday distribution at the following locations and times: (Boyd) First United Methodist Church 10:30-11 a.m.; (Bridgeport) Bridgeport Elementary School parking lot 10:30-11:00 a.m., Cates Street Baptist Church 10:30-11 a.m., First Baptist Church 10:30-11 a.m., First United Methodist Church 10:30-11 a.m., Presbyterian Church 10:30-11 a.m.; (Slidell) Slidell High School 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Other locations and times are: as follows: Chico First United Methodist Church 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Chisholm Trail Middle School and Seven Hills Elementary in Rhome on Thursdays.

SWEETWATER HOMECOMING – The Sweetwater Cemetery Homecoming is Sunday. Preaching is at 11, lunch at noon followed by the business meeting.

PANHELLENIC SOCIETY – An informational brunch for the Wise County Panhellenic sorority alumnae will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Harvest Moon Farm, 2442 Preskitt Road in Decatur. All Wise County area college ladies who are interested in learning more about sorority recruitment (rush) and college Greek life are invited to attend. MASONIC LODGE BREAKFAST – The Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 779 is hosting its quarterly breakfast Saturday. Sausage gravy, biscuits, bacon, jelly, coffee and milk will be served 7-9 a.m. Donations will be accepted.

GROUND BREAKING CEREMONY – The City of Bridgeport, Bridgeport Economic Development and Vyve Broadband will hold a ground breaking ceremony to celebrate faster Internet speeds up to 200 mbps in areas of Bridgeport at 9 a.m. Friday at 1111 Stevens St. Call the city at 940-683-3400.

SONFLOWER CAMP – Sonflower campers and helpers will meet at Fit-N-Wise at 12:30 p.m. Friday for a swim party with pizza to follow. Campers and volunteers need to bring their waivers. A table will be set up outside Fit-N-Wise for campers and helpers who have not filled in their waivers.

YOUTH FOOTBALL – Registration for Alvord Youth Football will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday and 8-11 a.m. June 23 at the Alvord Elementary practice field. The cost is $125. Call Tracy, 940-393-5316.

SCIENCE EXHIBIT – The Trailblazer, a traveling science exhibit with hands-on activities centered on energy, aerodynamics, space, weather and biotechnology, will be at the Rhome Public Library 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday.
