FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL IS BACK – High school football returns tonight with a full schedule of games. Little Elm will take on Northwest at 7, Decatur travels to Kennedale at 7:30, Pilot Point will be at Bridgeport at 7:30, Paradise is on the road at S&S Consolidated at 7:30, Boyd hosts Nocona at 7:30, Alvord is home against Electra at 7, Chico travels to Petrolia at 7 and Victory Christian is at Covenant Classical at 7:30. Scores will be posted tonight as they are available at WCMessenger.com, and coverage of tonight’s games will be featured in the Saturday Wise County Messenger. Boyd ISD will unveil three monuments at Yellowjacket Stadium for the 1983, 2004 and 1958 football teams before tonight’s season opener. There will also be a reunion and meal for members of the three teams at 5:30 p.m.

BRIDGEPORT ISD ADOPTS BUDGET, TAX RATE – Bridgeport ISD approved its budget for the 2018-19 school year Thursday. The budget includes $18,826,761 toward its general fund, $1,064,097 to food service and $2,684,857 to the debt service fund. Instruction cost will take up the majority of the budget, totaling $9,591,698. Additionally, the school board approved keeping its tax rate the same as last year at $1.2482 per $100 valuation. Maintenance and operation makes up $1.04 of the tax rate while principal and interest on debt is the remaining $.2082 per $100 valuation.

ALVORD ISD KEEPS TAX RATE THE SAME – After considering a tax rate increase, the Alvord School Board yesterday voted to keep the tax rate the same for the 2018-2019 school year. The board approved a maintenance and operations tax rate of $1.17 and an interest and sinking tax rate of 18.4 cents per $100 of taxable value.

DHS PEP RALLIES – Decatur High School pep rallies have been moved to Friday mornings, and the first one of the year is today. They will start at 9:40 a.m. The public is invited to attend, but everyone must enter through the front doors of the school and check in at the office.

CHANGE TO FISHING REGS – The fishing regulations on Lake Bridgeport change tomorrow. The 14- to 18-inch slot length limit changes to a 14-inch minimum length limit. Daily bag will remain at five fish. Dove season also starts tomorrow.

HAY SHOW – The Wise County Hay Show is 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at the Women’s Building at the Wise County Fairgrounds. It will include two CEU’s for Pesticide Applicator License. Program is free and lunch is provided. Topics will include Managing Forage in Drought Conditions and Risk Management. Call the Wise County Extension Office to sign up, 940-627-3341.

HOLIDAY CLOSING – The Decatur dumpsite will close on Monday for the Labor Day holiday. Boyd and Cottondale dumpsites will close on Wednesday.

ALZHEIMER’S SUPPORT GROUP – The Wise Alzheimer’s Group meets 7 p.m. Tuesday in the boardroom at the Wise Health System west campus in Decatur. Call Richard, 940-255-0244.

VOLLEYBALL – Tonight’s volleyball lineup includes Northwest at Weatherford at 5:30 p.m., Boyd at Decatur at 5 p.m., Fort Worth Poly Tech at Bridgeport at 4:30 p.m., and Paradise is at the Nocona Tournament.

CROSS COUNTRY – Boyd, Bridgeport, Paradise and Chico will be at the Boyd Invitational Saturday. Decatur will run at the Marcus Invitational.

CRUISE NIGHTS – Cruise Nights on the Courthouse Square is 4-8 p.m. Saturday. Registration is 4-7 p.m., $15 per vehicle. Stores and restaurants will be open late for visitors. For information call 940-399-9558.

BAKE SALE – DATCU will have a bake sale today in the lobby. All proceeds will go to Wise County United Way.

PLANT SALE – The Bridgeport Animal Shelter will hold a patio plant sale 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Lowe’s grocery store in Bridgeport. All plant sales will go to a partner rescue solely to be used for the animals at this shelter.

BRISKET FUNDRAISER – The Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 779 will cook briskets that will be ready for pick up between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday. To order a brisket call 940-255-2782 or 817-992-4180. Cost is $60 per brisket.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY – The Decatur Cares monthly mobile food pantry will be at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur Saturday. Distribution is 8:30-10 a.m. in the church parking lot.

FUNERALS – Memorial service for Chan Horne Sr., 73, of Springtown is 10 a.m. Saturday at St John Catholic Church in Bridgeport. Jones Family Funeral in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Connie Gold, 62, of Bridgeport is 1 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Susan Ray, 63, of Runaway Bay will be held at a later date. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Jerry A. Doss, 79, of Fort Worth is 11 a.m. today at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Boyd with burial at Boyd cemetery.
