DRUG ARRESTS – Five people were arrested on drug charges following a search of a Decatur home Thursday morning. At about 5 a.m., Wise County Sheriff’s deputies and investigators executed a search warrant on a North Cowan Street residence. As a result of the search approximately 170 grams of methamphetamine and packaging material used to distribute methamphetamine were seized. James Besidas, 57, and Amanda Clawson, 38, were arrested for possession of methamphetamine, 4-200 grams, a second degree felony. Matthew Stack, 38, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, 1-4 grams, a third degree felony. Xavier Odell, 39, and Heather Johnston, 25, were arrested for possession of methamphetamine, less than 1 gram, a state jail felony.

ENGLISH CLASSES – The HOPE program of First Baptist Church Decatur will host registration for English classes Aug. 29. Registration will be held in the Family Life Center 5-6:30 p.m. A meal will be served to those registering. ESL classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 5 in the Education Building on campus of the church.

FISHING TOURNEY – Devon Energy will have its 9th Annual Keepin’ It Reel bass fishing tournament and fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 8, at Lake Bridgeport. OFFICE CLOSED – The Veteran Service Office will be closed today for staff to attend training in Dallas. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday.

LIVE HEALTHY – A Toxin-Free Living class will be presented 6-7 p.m. Aug. 28 at Decatur Medical Lodge. RSVP with Denise Dennis at 940-626-2813 for the free class that will teach you about the unhealthy items people are exposed to daily and how to live healthier. Space is limited. Every attendee receives a gift.

OFFICE HOURS CHANGE – Due to in-service meetings, Weatherford College Wise County offices will be open 2-4 p.m. today.

VOLUNTEER FAIR – Several local charities, including the Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Decatur Cares, Feeding Wise Kids, Raquel’s Wings and the volunteer fire departments of Wise County, will take part in the volunteer fair on the Decatur square from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. LITTLE LEAGUE – Signups for fall Decatur Little League Baseball is 9 a.m.-noon Saturday and noon-1 p.m. Sunday at Decatur City Hall, 201 E. Walnut St. For ages Tball-14U. TAX RATES, PERSONNEL ISSUES ON THE TABLE – Citizens have one more chance to weigh in on the county tax rate at a public hearing Monday morning. Starting at 8 a.m., county commissioners will accept comment from the public on the proposed county tax rate, and at 8:30 there will be a hearing on the branch campus maintenance tax rate. Both hearings will be in the third-floor conference room of the Wise County Courthouse and will be followed by the regular commissioners meeting at 9. The regular meeting includes an executive session to discuss a personnel issue. Commissioners will also discuss the county’s budget for fiscal year 2019, as well as the budget for Weatherford College Wise County.

GRAVESIDE service for Leo Nall, 88, of Fort Worth is 10 a.m. today at Paradise Cemetery. Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

GRAVESIDE service for Joyce Anne Sosa, 72, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. today at Boerne City Cemetery. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Debbie Cowley, 66, of Chico is 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Chico with burial at Chico Cemetery. Family visitation is 3-5 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Jackie Johnson, 92, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Saturday at Balsora Baptist Church with burial at Willow Point Cemetery. Family visitation is 12:30-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Hawkins-Bridgeport is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Gary Hodges, 64, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL for Jimmie Adams, 87, of Haslet is 2-4 p.m. Saturday at VFW Avondale/Haslet No. 10374. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.
