SUSPECTED GAMBLING OPERATIONS BUSTED UP – Ten gaming machines were seized from two separate tobacco shops in Bridgeport Thursday evening, and the business owners could soon face misdemeanor gambling charges. Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Stanford said officers acted on citizen tips about possible illegal gambling going on in the two businesses, both located on 16th Street – one in the 1400 block and the other in the 1700 block. Officers executed a search warrant around 6 p.m. Thursday and seized five machines from each business as well as a total of $6,000 in cash. Using an undercover officer, police were able to verify that cash prizes were being given to winners, which is a violation of the law. No arrests have been made.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH UPDATE – The motorcyclist involved in a serious crash in Newark Wednesday afternoon has been identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety as 21-year-old Chais Dunlap of Jacksboro. According to a statement from the DPS, Dunlap lost control of his 1987 Suzuki motorcycle as he traveled north on FM 718. Dunlap failed to control his speed and struck the rear of a 1997 GMC pickup. The driver of the pickup, Johnny Morton, 31, of Newark was not injured. Dunlap was flown to a Fort Worth Hospital. Family members reported via social media that Dunlap was in stable condition.

MORE STORMS – Parts of Wise County received rain from isolated thunderstorms last night. The Decatur Municipal Airport received only 0.03 of an inch of rain. A lightning strike from the storm started a small grass fire near a structure off Farm Road 2048 in Boyd. Neighbors said they heard a crack and saw smoke. Multiple departments responded and quickly contained the fire. Today and Saturday’s forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of more rain, and chances increase to 60 and 70 percent Sunday into Sunday evening.

BUDGET TALK – County Judge J.D. Clark will present a proposed budget and tax rate for fiscal year 2019 at Monday’s commissioners meeting. They will also discuss the Weatherford College Wise County proposed budget and decide whether or not to put Wise County Emergency Services District No. 2 on the November ballot. The meeting is at 9 a.m. in the third floor conference room of the courthouse in Decatur. It is open to the public.

FEEDING WISE KIDS – Today will be the final day for Feeding Wise Kids summer feeding program. The following locations and times for the final day are: (Boyd) First United Methodist Church 10:30-11 a.m.; (Bridgeport) Only one location, Cates Street Baptist Church 10:30-11 a.m., (Slidell) Slidell High School 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

ALVORD MEET THE TEACHER – Alvord ISD will host Meet the Teacher Nights starting Monday for the middle school at 5:30 p.m. and the high school at 6:30 p.m. followed by a parent meeting at the high school at 7:30 p.m. A Title I parent meeting and Meet the Teacher Night for the elementary school will be 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday.

EIGHTER FROM DECATUR BIKE RALLY – The Eighter from Decatur bike rally is Saturday. The 7-, 25-, 53- and 106-mile routes start and end at Decatur Municipal Airport. Registration starts at 6 a.m., and the ride begins at 7. Early registration is $35 and $40 on race day with all proceeds going to Raquel’s Wings. All riders receive a T-shirt, meal and medal.

BACK TO SCHOOL POOL PARTY – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation invites all 6th, 7th and 8th graders to the Middle School “Back to School” Pool Party at the city pool 5:30-7 p.m. Saturday. PRAYER WALK – The second Chico Prayer Walk is 7 p.m. Sunday at Chico Elementary School, 1120 Park Road. The walk will begin at the elementary and travel to Chico ISD’s other two campuses for prayer.

GRAVESIDE service for D’nise Livengood, 63, of New York is 2 p.m. Tuesday at East Bridgeport Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL for Ernest “Ernie” Parker, 54, of Rhome is 6:30 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Boyd. Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd is handling arrangements.

FUNERAL for Jack Jason Kennan, 41, of Newark is 2 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Chapel in Boyd with burial at Aurora Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Mary Darilek, 84, of Bridgeport is 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Johns Catholic Church in Bridgeport. Jones Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport is handling arrangements.
