114 TO BE CLOSED IN BOYD – Texas 114 will be closed today through Boyd for construction on the Union Pacific Railroad. The construction, including the replacement of rails, will close roadway way from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Westbound 114 traffic will be diverted onto Farm Road 730 North. Eastbound 114 traffic will be detoured onto North Wilson Street. Boyd Police Chief Dwayne Taylor offered County Road 4668 as an alternate route through the city and around the construction. Also, Three Skillet Road at the bridge will be closed this weekend beginning at 5 p.m. today so crews can work on the bridge.

ALVORD DROPS GAME 1 – In 2A bi-district softball, Perrin-Whitt won the first game of a three-game series by a score of 6-3 over Alvord Thursday. Game 2 is at 7 p.m. Saturday at Jacksboro.

LADY EAGLES BEGIN PLAYOFFS – The Decatur Lady Eagles will take on Dallas Roosevelt in a one-game playoff in the softball bi-district round at 7 tonight at Chisholm Trail.

SENIOR HONORS – Decatur High School baseball team will honor the senior players at 7 p.m. before their game at 7:30 today.

HOMECOMING – The annual Cottondale Cemetery Homecoming is Sunday. A covered dish lunch is at 12:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting at 1:30. Donations may be mailed to the Cottondale Cemetery Association, c/o Marsha Foster, 456 CR 3591, Paradise, TX 76073.

CHURCH YARD SALE – The student ministry of Slidell’s First Baptist Church will host a yard sale/free car wash on Saturday in the parking lot of the church.

COLOR RUN POSTPONED – Wise County 4-H’s Run for the Clovers Color Run scheduled for Saturday has been postponed until the summer. Potential dates are June 23 or July 14. Watch the Update for more information.

FIFTH SUNDAY SINGINGS – Several area churches are hosting fifth Sunday singings this Sunday. They include Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur at 11 a.m. (followed by a pot luck lunch), Bethel Baptist Church in Alvord 2-4 p.m. and Abundant Life Worship Center in Newark at 6 p.m.

RELAY FOR LIFE – Wise County Relay for Life is today at the McCarroll Middle School track in Decatur. It is open to the public. The schedule includes team check in and set up 4-7 p.m., the survivor dinner at 6, opening ceremonies at 7, luminaria at 9, blast off tournament at 10, Mrs. Relay at 11, tug-of-war at midnight and several “themed” laps throughout the night.

DRUG TAKE BACK – Stagecoach Rehabilitation, in partnership with the Bridgeport Police Department, is accepting unused or expired prescription medication for safe disposal 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Drop off medication at 2108 15th Street.

LAKE BRIDGEPORT CLEANUP – The 16th annual Lake Bridgeport Cleanup is 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday. An after-party will be held 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Tarrant Regional Water District lake office, 1710 Farm Road 1658 (adjacent to the lake dam). The event will feature free t-shirts, lunch, live entertainment and prizes and giveaways.

FUNDRAISING CONCERT – The Auto Tech Fundraiser Concert featuring the George Brothers is 7 p.m. Saturday at the Bridgeport Middle School Auditorium. Tickets are $15 for adults and children are free. All proceeds benefit the Roy Sweatman Memorial Scholarship fund.

CLEANUP DAY IN NEW FAIRVIEW – New Fairview will hold a cleanup day 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Dumpsters will be located at city hall, 999 Illinois Lane. You will need to bring your driver’s license or utility bill that shows a physical address within city limits. Items that will not be accepted include tires, batteries, hazardous materials, wet paint, oil, refrigerants or anything containing refrigerants.

MOVIE IN THE PARK – Bridgeport Box Office presents “Wonder” in Harwood Park Saturday. The movie is free, and concessions will be sold. Pre-movie activities will start at 7 p.m., and the movie will start at dusk. Call Bridgeport Parks and Recreation at 940-683-3480.

SERVICE for James Robert Brown, 79, of Chico is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Bridgeport.

FUNERAL for Leroy Culpepper, 73, of Chico is 10 a.m. Monday at Wise County Cowboy Church in Decatur with burial at Cumby Cemetery in Chico. Family visitation is 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport.
