1 HURT IN CRASH – One person was flown to a Fort Worth hospital Wednesday night following a two-vehicle crash in the south part of the county. The wreck happened around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Farm Roads 51 and 2123, east of Cottondale. Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Bryan Keith said a passenger car was eastbound on FM 2123 when the driver ran the stop sign and struck a southbound passenger vehicle on FM 51. The driver of the vehicle that ran the stop sign had to be extricated from the car before being flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. The other driver was not seriously injured. Traffic was shut down in all directions while the wreck was cleared.

NORTHWEST PLAYS IN STATE SEMIFINAL – The Northwest Texans play Alamo Heights in the 5A state semifinal at 8:30 p.m. today in San Antonio. Northwest is on a 17-game winning streak and has not lost since December. It is the second straight season the Texans have advanced to the state tournament. Northwest has never won a state title in basketball, and with a win today, will advance to the state final at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Texans would play the winner of Port Arthur Memorial and Midlothian in the championship game.

STUDENT DETAINED AFTER THREAT – A Chico High School student was detained yesterday morning after he had made a threat to harm other students the day before, according to Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin. The 16-year-old male had “made comments about some students he didn’t like, and said he intended to do harm,” Akin said. Students also reported that the 16-year-old had mentioned bringing a weapon to school on Wednesday. He was met by officers yesterday morning who detained him and took him to juvenile probation. He did not have a weapon on him. Akin said juvenile probation will determine if any charges will be filed.

NORTHWEST ISD WILL WAIT ON BOUNDARY – Northwest ISD trustees will wait until after spring break for a decision on an attendance boundary between Chisholm Trail and Adams middle schools on March 19. Trustees approved boundaries for the 2018-19 school year for elementary schools Wednesday.

UPDATED ELECTION NUMBERS – The Wise County Elections Office released updated primary election numbers yesterday morning after members of the ballot board hand-counted about 130 ballots late into the night. The numbers did not change the outcome of any election. The Wise County Messenger’s election results page has been updated at WCMessenger.com/election.

NEW FAIRVIEW TO HOLD ANNEXATION HEARING – The city of New Fairview will hold the first of two public hearings today on the annexation of 131.61 acres east of County Line Road along Farm Road 407. The hearing starts at 7 p.m. at City Hall, located at 999 Illinois Lane. Developers are proposing to build 153 lots on the land that is bordered to the north by B. Judge Lane in Denton County. The lots will range in size from one-half to three-quarter acres. Homes are expected to start at $340,000. A second hearing is slated for March 19.

TRACK MEETS – In high school track, Boyd is hosting a meet today that Alvord, Paradise and Bridgeport will attend. The Lady Panthers won the Alvord track meet last week, while the Sissies finished second. Bridgeport won the Alvord meet on the boys side, while the Yellowjackets took home bronze. Elsewhere, the Decatur track team will compete today in Argyle.

COMMUNITY ART PROJECT – Kids of all ages are invited to participate in a community art project at Chico Public Library 4 p.m. today. Participants will paint Easter eggs which will be placed on display in Runaway Bay in the weeks leading up to Easter.

MASONIC LODGE BREAKFAST – The Greenwood Masonic Lodge No. 779 will host its quarterly breakfast 7-9 a.m. Saturday. The breakfast is free, but donations are appreciated. Sausage gravy and biscuits, bacon, milk, coffee and orange juice will be served.

MUSICAL GUESTS – Grandpa’s Neighbors will be singing in the evening service of Grace Baptist Church in Decatur 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
