FATAL WRECK IN DECATUR – One person was killed and two more taken to the hospital following a wreck at the intersection of Trinity and Hale streets in Decatur around 11:30 Wednesday morning. Lt. Gerald Wright with the Decatur Police Department said an SUV driven by a 16-year-old was westbound on Hale Street when he ran the stop sign and collided with a passenger car driven by Billy Wade McRae, 74, of Bridgeport. McRae died at the scene. A passenger in his car, Rhonda McRae, 61, was taken to Denton Medical City with serious injuries. The driver of the SUV was taken to Wise Health System and later released. Another teenage passenger in the SUV was not transported. The teens were Decatur High School students who were going to lunch. Roads were shut down in a one block radius from the intersection while the wreck was investigated.

CHICO BUS WRECK – A Chico ISD bus carrying four golf students and a coach was involved in a crash Wednesday morning in Cooke County. Chico ISD Superintendent Don Elsom said four students and a coach were involved. Three students were taken to a Gainesville hospital to be evaluated, and one was kept at the hospital overnight for observation. The Gainesville Daily Register reported on its website that officials told their reporters that the accident happened near Muenster and involved minor injuries. The paper reported that details about what caused the crash were not immediately available. A photo that accompanied the Daily Register’s story showed a school bus on its side just off a roadway.

DENSE FOG ADVISORY – Wise County is under a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m.

FLAG RAISING CEREMONY – Wise Health System will host a flag raising ceremony in recognition of National Donate Life month at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at the East Campus flag poles. The flag will fly during the month of April celebrating the hundreds of thousands of donors and recipients whose lives have been affected by organ, eye and tissue donation.

ANIMAL SHELTER CLOSED – The Wise County Animal Shelter will be closed Friday and Saturday for the Easter holiday. It will reopen normal hours on Monday.

HOLIDAY CLOSING – Wise County dumpsites (Boyd, Chico, and Cottondale) will close Friday. They will be open regular hours Saturday.

RELAY SURVIVOR DINNER – Relay For Life of Wise County invites all cancer survivors to their yearly Survivor Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 2, at First Baptist Church in Decatur. Relay will hold its silent auction, luminarias will be available and door prizes will be awarded. EASTER EVENT – New Hope Fellowship will hold an Easter Egg Hunt 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Greenwood Park in Greenwood. The event will also include a bake sale, petting zoo, pony rides, hay rides, games, prizes and photos with the Easter Bunny. Call Jack Sandford at 940-389-9225

EASTER EGG HUNT – Bridgeport Medical Lodge Easter will hold an Easter egg hunt for residents and the community at 3 p.m. Friday. The Easter bunny will be on hand.

FUNERALS – Graveside service for Lowell Ollie Burkett, 89, of Decatur is 11 a.m. Friday at Flat Rock Cemetery in Decatur. Alexander’s Midway Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

SERVICE for Yolanda Colon, 71, of Decatur is pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Louise Duck, 89, of Weatherford is 2 p.m. Saturday at Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel in Bridgeport with burial at Sunset Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

SERVICE for Linda Clarke, 62, of Bridgeport is pending at Hawkins-Bridgeport.

MEMORIAL service for William L. “Shorty” Byrd, 58, of Decatur is 2 p.m. Thursday at Jones Family Funeral Home-Decatur.
