SALE OF CHAMPIONS – The Wise County Youth Fair wrapped up Saturday afternoon with the sale of champion projects. When auctioneer Ryan Brewer slammed down the gavel at the end of the day, Youth Fair supporters had spent almost $275,000 to benefit 134 FFA, 4-H and FCCLA exhibitors. Carson Read’s Grand Champion Steer sold for $12,000 to the Champions and Blue Ribbon Club. Other top sales included $5,500 for Clint Demmitt’s Grand Champion Market Hog, $5,000 for Rebecca Lambert’s Grand Champion Market Lamb and $5,000 for Danae Meadows’ Reserve Grand Champion Market Wether.

SPECIAL HONOR – Wise County Youth Fair President Tim Fletcher presented a special award Saturday to Lyndi and Lauren Luttrull of Decatur, creators of the “Heart of a Champion” show at the Youth Fair for special needs exhibitors. On Friday, about 50 exhibitors showed lambs, dogs, goats and pigs in the show arena. They were assisted in the arena by Wise County FFA, 4-H and FCCLA members. All the exhibitors were awarded ribbons by show judge James Wood.

TEXANS RETURN TO STATE TOURNAMENT – The Northwest Texans knocked off Amarillo 60-56 to repeat as 5A Region I regional champions Saturday. The Texans advance to the state basketball tournament in San Antonio and will play in the semifinals Thursday night.

DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM – Parents of incoming Decatur ISD kindergarten students for 2018-2019 are invited to attend one of the upcoming parent information meetings about the Rann Elementary Dual Language Immersion Program at Rann Library. Sessions are scheduled noon and 6 p.m. on March 6 and 26.

SUPPORT GROUP – The Wise Alzheimer’s Group meets 7 p.m. Thursday (instead of the normal Tuesday) in the boardroom at the Wise Health System west campus in Decatur. Call Richard, 940-255-0244.

PASTURE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP – A Pasture Management Workshop will be held Wednesday at the Bridgeport Community Center, 1102 Lawdwin Ave. Registration is 10:30 a.m., and the program begins at 11. Cost is $10 if you pre-register or $15 at the door. Topics will include: Weed Control Basics and Product Update and Range and Pasture Application Technology. Lunch is included. NORTHWEST ISD BOUNDARY MEETING – Northwest ISD officials will hold a town hall meeting at 7 tonight at Chisholm Trail Middle School in Rhome to discuss the pending attendance boundary changes. NISD trustees last week recorded a split 3-3 vote on the recommended attendance boundaries, which included placing the dividing line between Chisholm Trail and Adams middle schools at the Wise-Tarrant county line. The proposed change would drop the projected enrollment at Chisholm Trail to under 500 students for the campus.

CANDIDATE FORUM – Wise Citizens for Property Rights will hold a candidate forum 6 p.m. today at the Bridgeport Lions Hall. There will be a short business meeting before the forum at 5:30.

PARKINSON’S SUPPORT – The Parkinson’s Support Group meets 6 p.m. Tuesday at the old Fit-N-Wise building, 609 Medical Center Dr. in Decatur.

FUNERAL for Ruben Dunlap, 20, of Bridgeport is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant View Baptist Church with burial at The Mexican Cemetery. Family visitation is 6-8 tonight at Hawkins-Bridgeport.
