PUBLIC HEARING ON RATE INCREASE – The Bridgeport City Council will hold a public hearing 6 p.m. today at Bridgeport City Hall regarding the proposed rate increase for the water and wastewater utilities. The city says the rate increase is necessary in order to improve water quality as well as provide for major repairs and upgrades to the water and wastewater treatment plants and system. TEXANS FALL IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The Northwest Texans came up one win shy of their first basketball state title in school history, falling to Port Arthur 75-69 Saturday at the Alamodome. Northwest finished the season 34-6 and the 5A runner-up. In his final high school game, Mason Hix finished with a game-high 27 points, shooting 9-of-16 from the field. He also knocked down four 3-pointers.

DIABETES CLASSES – Total Diabetes Care at Wise Health System will hold diabetes education classes in Alvord today. The beginner class will be offered at 3 p.m., and the advanced class will be offered at 4 p.m. Both classes will be held at the First Baptist Church. The classes are intended to help those with diabetes better understand and manage the disease. Classes are free and will be taught by Dick Gilley RN, CCRN, CDE. No RSVP required. STORM DAMAGE BRUSH PICK UP – Due to the recent storms, the City of Bridgeport will conduct a storm damage brush pick up around Bridgeport Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. During this time, residents are asked to place their brush next to the curb and city staff will come pick it up. For this one time only collection event, brush does not need to be bundled or cut to short lengths. Visit the city’s Facebook page to see when the city is scheduled to pick up brush in your area. SIREN TEST – The Chico Volunteer Fire Department will test the emergency warning sirens at 7 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting. It will consist of three long blasts with a 10-second delay between each blast.

SPRING BREAK MOVIES – Bridgeport Parks and Recreation will show free movies this week at the Arcadia, 1009 Halsell St. “Smurfs” will be shown Tuesday and “Coco” on Thursday. Movies will have two showings, 1 and 7 p.m. both days. Doors open 30 minutes prior to start of movie. Concessions will be available for purchase. Call 940-683-3480.

SCV MEETING – The Sons of Confederate Veterans meet 7 p.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Decatur Wesley Center.

LINEN SALE FUNDRAISER – The Wise Health System Volunteer Auxiliary will hold a fundraiser luxury linen sale 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday in the main lobby of the hospital. Proceeds benefit the auxiliary.

FUNERAL for Raol Salinas, 70, formerly of Bridgeport is 10 a.m. Thursday at Hawkins Chapel in Bridgeport with iternment at 2:15 p.m. at the DFW National Cemetery.
